Hey There!

Hoping someone can help me out. For a while I've had bad breath (even after I brush my teeth) and I noticed that my tongue has this white/yellow creamy/thick substance on the top of it, more of it towards the back.

When I went to the dentist, I mentioned this to the hygienist and she said that it was plaque on my tongue and that I need to brush it away. Well I can't get my tooth brush that far back and when I use a scrapper, I can get some of from the front of my tongue off, but it's thick.

Any idea what it is and are there any over the counter remedies?

I think it's Thrush on my tongue (it's only on my tongue).

Any ideas? Unfortunantely I no longer have insurance and cannot afford to go the Dentist, so I'm hoping there is something I can buy online or over the counter to help fight this.

Any help is appreciated!

Just for FYI, I'm a 22 year old male with excellent teeth (had braces, etc).

I see no reason not to believe your hygienist -- she had a first hand look.

Chlorine dioxide containing products (such as CloSysII, Oxyfresh, or TheraBreath) can help with bad breath. To the best of my knowledge, these are not available in shops in the US, but you can order them over the internet.

Chris,

I have the exact same problem at times. I wonderered where it came from and I'm having the same thing you do, the thick yellowish coating on the tongue, eventhough I brush, etc. I brushed again this morning and cleaned my tongue and it went away.

Did you ever find out anything else?
