Please advise:
I have been advised that I cannot have surgery to remove my lower wisdom teeth as the risk of infection is too great, as I am type 1 diabetic.

Can someone please tell me if I am being fobbed off or is this really real?

I have never heard that being diabetic is a contraindication for wisdom tooth extraction. The teeth themselves are usually a source of infection and need to be removed. I would think this is an individual call, based on risks vs. outcome. Certainly if you have infection around the wisdom teeth they need to go, but you will require close monitoring. whiten teeth

Having type I diabetes in not a contra-indication to have wisdom teeth removed. Yes, you may be at risk of slower healing and infection, but the risk is not high as you would think.

I would either get further clarification from your dentist or a second-opinion. If your wisdom tooth isn't compacted or infected then it should be fine as long as your dentist monitors it and checks it out during cleanings. I still have my wisdom teeth in on one side of my mouth and they are fine.
