I had my four bottom wisdom teeth removed about 4 hours ago, and I was wondering when this endless flow of blood stops (everytime I spit, there is just spit flouid that is probably 30-40 % blood). Obviously when the blood clots, but when can I expect that to happen. Thanks =P

It *can* last for up to 3 days meaning just a little might be coming out on the 3rd day but it should start to slow down if not stopwithin 24 hrs

Thank you, yeah I noticed small difference from my mouth today compared to yesterday (a day filled with bloody gozz). I assume it is coming to an end with then. Thank you for your reply.

Greetings,I've found a little bit of "mental" comfort in some of your posts. I had my 4 WT's out on May 17. There was very little pain for the 2-3 weeks following. I almost considred it a great experience as after the first day of annoying bloody slobber I really didn't have any problem. My problem now is - about 7 days ago (June 5th) the extraction site of the worst impaction (which was hurting prior to extraction driving me to get my extraction) began to hurt just a little and feel uncomfortable. Over the past week there has been a slight pain and a slight earache. I can live with it if I could know it will go away but I'm starting to get a little worried as I've never had any discomfort / pain that lasts over a week. The pain is simply a slight heat feeling in my ear and every once-in-a-while I'll brush my tongue the wrong way against my teeth I feel that connected to the ear pain area. I had my teeth cleaned by my regular dentist 2 weeks after extraction and last thursday I went to my OS to get another look and see if he could find anything. He said it looks like I'm healing great. My swelling was still here (slightly) up to a few days ago and this slight discomfort seems to have come in just as the swelling completely went away. My OS stuck his finger way up in my jawline near where the bad impaction was removed and it's still very tender (painful if pressed on). I've seen plenty of "pain" stories on here but only a few explainations of when I can expect to feel better. I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks and I'd hate to keep feeling like crap.

Hi all, I had a wisdom tooth extracted on the 4th (little over 3 weeks ago). For the first two weeks the dentist said it was normal for me to be in pain and to have pain in my ear and radiating up to my ear. However, the whole still has not filled in and my ear still bothers me (although not a lot of pain). When I went in today for the 2nd postop, the dentist said he didn't know why my ear should still be bothering me (at times it feels like water in there, sometimes like pinsticks-although not really painful-and I can feel the air on that ear, but not the other). Really wish I had the tooth extracted by an oral surgeon, though with my luck it may not have made a difference. Can anyone tell me it this is going to get better?

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago. After four days, I was getting a radiating earache, so I went back to my OS. He squirted it with saline and it was very sensitive in 2 sites. So he packed all four sites as a preventative measure.Three days after that, he took the packing out and said to try it without the packing. The next two days felt great - it was better having the packing out. The third day minus-packing, I felt that horrible earache again that did not go away the next morning. So I went back. He squirted the sites with saline and mouthwash and checked the right side with his poking instrument. Since I took a Percocet before coming in (as I thought he might pack it again), I didn't feel much. He said it did not look infected or like dry socket and that it was healing nicely. That day, I was in a lot of pain, right at the extraction sites, probably due to the poking around in there. The next two days have felt better, but I notice while the earache is kind of gone, the on and off throbbing in the sites is worrisome to me. I also notice the sockets have opened up a bit - he probably had to open them up to check them. Does it just need a few days to close back up? Can a person develop dry sockets two weeks after possibly having it before? I worry because after he cleaned out the sockets and since I didn't get repacked, there obviously would be no bleeding for any reclotting. Sometimes the throbbing happens if I bend down to pick something up or move too fast. It's weird, now there is a little pain and throbbing in the extraction site - which freaks me out. Any thoughts? Help and advice is much appreciated!

Trev869 unregistered posted 08-21-2005 07:13 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi I had 6 wisdom teeth removed a month and a half ago and Ive been in severe pain since. I went back several times and they told me they were healing fine. I even went to the E.R. and they said I just had a damaged jaw muscle but everything else looks fine. My problem is Im having severe headaches and some pain in my jaw. Im also having sharp pain in my ears. Its only on one side of my head. They tested for TMJ but nothing. I dont know what to do. Noone can find anything but the headaches are getting to bad to stand it. I never had headaches before the operation . I had my wisdom teeth removed about three weeks ago. I have had 2 dry sockets (one on each side of my lower teeth). I was not told that I had a dry socket until I went back a week later. My dry sockets were healing (the left side had already healed by this time), but my right side was the size of a ping pong ball and somewhat feverish. My OS looked at my mouth for the first time at this point (did not talk to me post-op or while I was getting packed for my dry sockets/post-op appt.). He got the stuck food particle out of the socket, and put a pack with antibiotic in it with a prescription for an oral antibiotic. It was not until two days ago that I started having sharp pains at my temple that spread from my ear to my eye socket. I was sick and tired of the way my os was treating my care and problem because I had mentioned ear pain at a previous appt and nothing was said/done about it; therefore, I went to see my medical doctor. She said that I was free of ear, nose, throat, and sinus infections or infections of the other three areas listed above. SHE ACTUALLY LOOKED IN MY MOUTH LONGER THAN MY OS DID!!!! She actually tested to see if my jaw was broken/fractured. She placed me on Neurontin for nerve pain, and it is h elping; however, my os said that my dr was stupid and that there is no nerve to be damaged. It feels like I have needles poking me in my temple, especially after I eat, lay down, and at night. I have never had head pain like this before.I was wondering if you could help me out with what to do? What is wrong with me!? I just want the sharp needle pain to go away! I can't sleep, and the only sleep I have gotten in the past 3 weeks was last night when I took a Neurontin.

have had 3 teeth pulled and a deep cleaning on all 4 quads in 9 weeks.my first two teeth pulled have healed well, last tooth was bottom left, tooth directly in front of where my wisdom tooth used to be(sorry cant remember what one its called).for the first 4 days or so my jaw was so sore i could hardly open my mouth, had occasional shooting pains through to my ear.has been 6 days now, most of the soreness and stiffness has gone, still the occasional ear pain but something new has come up,ive begun having shooting pains up to and a little past my temple on the side of my head.they were so bad one night that the next morning it seemed the side and front of my head and face were sore.my dentist is telling me if they are not better by the end of the week to come in but that they should subside, and im on antibotics.just curious if this is common at all?it's kind of strange, the actual area around the where the tooth was pulled has yet to hurt but seems everything around it is.oh,i am a smoker but smoked none at all til the next day, have never had dry socket and im wondering if maybe thats whats causing the pain?thanks for listening=).

Hi Neo or Malcolm, When I did a search for "earache after wisdom tooth extraction" I stumbled upon this forum and registered to ask you or anyone who knows... since the issues you two wrote about are similar to what I am experiencing now. I had my 2 upper wisdom teeth extracted in Nov 2007 and am experiencing that pounding/ beating sensation in the left ear sporadically. A good nap helps it go away but its been there for so long now. I think it might've started two months or so after the surgery. Will it ever go away? Does anyone know what its related to? and will it heal on its own? I am interested to find out if it cured on its own for Malcolm and Neo. All responses truely appreciated. Thanks! quote: Originally posted by Malcolm: Hi Neo - you asked whether anyone has had this problem, specifically the sensation of the ear beating in a similar way to the heart, after wisdom teeth extraction. I can confirm that I had all four wisdom teeth extracted about 3 months ago and have just started to perceive an erratic beating in my left ear drum accompanied by a blocked up or full sensation behind the ear. I have a working hypothesis that it does not coincide exactly with the heartbeat, that it is most intense in the mornings or when I sit still, and that it is not just a sound perceived but an actual motion of something in the ear (a kind of throbbing expansion.) Cheers, Malcolm

hi guys, my mom just had her right lower wisdom tooth removed 4 days ago. everything went well, but the very next day she had her ear plugged and she barely can hear anything, but the ear pain is in the opposit side then the removal was. we tried everything. hot compress, drops, decongestant... i dont know if this is related, but as i read your posts probably is. so maybe she should try some muscle relaxant to ease the muscles... cause i can see that the ear way is pretty swollen. if anybody has any idea more then welcome to express it. thanks a lot

It has been exactly one week sense my two bottom wisdom teeth were extracted. I was in severe pain for several days and my body had no reaction to the vicodin so I had to just bare through it. I still have some difficulty opening my mouth but my Dr. told me to try chewing sugar free gum to get my muscles to relax and it has been EXTREMELY helpful!!! Before I eat I chew some gums to prep and stretch my mouth. On the other hand, my right ear hurts pretty bad. I went for a follow up today and the doc said that its normal. The only thing I can do to help ease the pain is to take Motrin.

i had all 4 wisdom teeth removed on the 28th of aug and i was doing fine after the surgery, i still havent drank from a straw, i kept ice on my face, i didnt have any carbonated drinks, i have been taking my antiboitic regularly and i have been rinsing with salt water. but, monday morning i woke up with a terrible ear ache and a rash like thing on my face. i stopped taking my vicodin and the rash went away.. but the ear ache was still there. i called the oral and maxillofacial surgeon that removed my teeth, and he told me to come in so he could take a look at it. he looked at my sockets and didnt tell me anything really, all they did was put some medicated filler in the sockets and told me to come back tomorrow morning. He told me that the pain should go away very shortly, but it doesnt seem to be helping too much. its really the pain in my ears that is hurting the most. should i go see a regular doctor? or just tell the oral and maxillofacial surgeon whats going on tomorrow when i go back in? is it normal for my ears to be hurting this bad?

I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted on Aug. 28th and man has it just been fun! I took that Thursday and Friday off of work and then had that following Monday off for Labor day so total I had 5 days to recover which my doctor said should have been more than enough. I was told I would be better by that Sunday....2 hours after surgery I started throwing up A LOT which did not make my mouth feel good. The doctor had to call in anti nausa medication for me to get immediatly. My face, jaw, and neck swelled up 3 times the size it all should be to the point that my cheeks were pressing on my eyes and I could not ready anything close up for a week. I stayed in bed, medicated, taking my antibiotics and keeping ice on my face 24/7. By that Monday my face was still swelled, couldn't open my mouth enough to eat more than apple sauce, had lost 6 pounds and had a terrible pain in my left lower jaw (not back by my ear but closer towards the front of my mouth). We called the dr. he said to discontinue the ice, to use heat and to rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide and then salt water. I had to return to work on Tuesday stilled swelled, feeling very week and drugged and still in pain. I was still taking 600mg of Ibuprofen at a time. The doctor then packed my mouth for dry socket Wed, Thurs, Fri and again on the next Mon. Now that that has worn off my jaw is hurting again!! Since the packing I have been able to finally eat but I too was told to stick a suringe down in the hole that wasn't being packed to flush it out with mouth wash. My question is after all of this time do I still have to go back and have more packing done or will this pain ever go away????

I had a upper left wisdom tooth removed yesterday morning. It was a routine extraction and came it pretty quickly. I bled alot. I went home and had to keep a cloth in my mouth for over 12 hours because I was still bleeding so bad. I finally fell asleep and woke up with blood all over my clothes / pillows & matress. (Ruined all of them). I went back to the dentist today for multiple reasons. I had a bad smell & taste in my mouth, I was still bleeding alot (as in 1oz of blood in a bottle every hour or so). I had a intense inner ear ache like a ear infection. My sinus cavities hurt (but are draining). What happened is my gum torn away from my jaw bone and stitching would be more intrusive then just letting it heal. My earache is to a minimum amount of pain (I worked after my tooth was pulled yesterday and today). My dentist said the earache can be caused because it is a truamatic experience to the body removing teeth. There is alot of pressure being applied. You bite position changes and takes awhile for your jaw muscles to adapt. Though I have been taking 1 700mg of Vicoden a day & penicilin to keep any infection away. Food to eat: - Mashed Potatos - Pudding & yogart - Campbells soup at hand - Fine cut pulled pork (without sauce) - Baby Food. (Dont Laugh Enough Pain and hunger and you will eat it!) Though after extracting I am swelled up so I can not open my mouth but about 1" so I have to smash up meat*****, etc.. and use a fork to get it in my mouth. Lol.
