I have a 10 yr old with mild autism. She needs 5 baby teeth pulled due to over crowding, a gum graph and a root canal. We have met with 5 dentist so far. The last one was sure he could do the extractions and today he tried to sedated her using a butterfly needle as an IV and it came out, then tried gassing her but she held her breath, and then went to numb her teeth and she screamed. She asked if I could be with her just til she fell asleep and they said no. She has never had any of this before. She was terrified. She blamed herself the rest of the day. If they would have just let me hold her hand while they did all this she would have been fine but they wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain that she would get upset. They said they have handled autistic children before. I feel so bad for her and I am just at my wits end. At this rate I think I am going to start looking 2 hours away to Atlanta for someone!
