I was very surprised and excited when my ortho office called today to tell me my trays were in! they said it would be 2-3 weeks and it was 1 week exactly!

I have had them in for about 8 hours and so far so good. I had one rough spot so I used some wax there. Taking them out for dinner hurt a bit, and my teeth feel really weird. They did some filing and I have 6 attachments. I look really bad without the trays in now so there is no turning back! I do have a quick question:

The bonding material used to attach my attachments kind of filled in the spaces between a few of my teeth to the point where I can't floss them. Will that go away and if not, is that OK?

I am glad to be feeling pretty used to my trays already. I am hoping tomorrow goes as well as today did! (Although I do have a lunch meeting tomorrow....)

That doesn't sound normal since the attachments should be on the surface of the teeth only. If some of the stuff got between some teeth it would have to removed by the doctor. Probably have to file it down since its nearly as hard as enamel. When I had a tooth bonding a few months ago on one of my front teeth some got between the two teeth and had to be shaved a bit with the sandpaper-like strip. I'd recommend you have your doctor work on that ASAP since flossing is very important!

Yes I agree with BadBoy, you HAVE to be able to floss!

I wasn't sure about that because at first I asked myself "if you can't get floss in there then you can't get food in there, right?" but I definitely don't like not beging able to floss! I am going to call my ortho today. I think I also lost a button.

I am well into day 2 with my first trays and it really isn't so bad. They are difficult to take out, but it only takes me a minute or two. It hurts more to have them out than in. I don't like having them out at all because of the way they shaved my teeth down.

I definitely lost a button this morning. What's funny is that it is stuck IN the tray. Which makes me wonder why they don't just attach them to the trays to begin with rather than the actual tooth.

I am very pleased so far!

Ugh...today my aligners are feel really weird. They fit differently today...kind of like they've been vacuum sealed onto my teeth...I don't feel any of the tooth moving pressure, but my bite is definitely different (both with and without the aligners). I'm lisping like a drunk because of it.

I'm only on the 2nd week of my 1st trays! And I even had to take a break for a little bit because of the swelling. Is this normal? I'm really wondering what the hell I've gotten myself into--esp. since now my teeth look worse (I think they've started moving, so there are more gaps now)...my job requires me to speak quite a lot...

I'm switching over to tray #3 in 2 days and they will be adding 12 attachments yea!! My trays other then the first day fit perfectly on my teeth. No cuts, sores, or anything. It makes me wonder if the impressions taken from your Doctor is the result of people having hard times. Is it because they're not taking them correctly? Maybe because I don't have my attachments on yet? I just don't know what the big deal is. You cannot straighten teeth with an on/off switch. I don't know what some people were expecting when agreeing to this treatment. I'm not trying to be too harsh. If I am, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to understand.

I'm guessing different people react differently to the trays. This first tray fit (initially at least) quite perfectly, it's just looser now, but my dentist said that's normal. My dentist is fairly experienced with invisalign and he's never seen anyone else's mouth react the way that it did to the invisalign. However, he doesn't think it's an allergic reaction either. I've always felt that I had a bigger tongue, which was fine, but maybe when I added the plastic it resulted in additional irritation. A friend of mine got invisalign as well, and didn't experience any pain or any lisp. I was lisping from the instant the trays went on.

I also had 7 attachments (pretty well hidden), but they've irritated my cheeks (especially with my aligners off), although they're getting used to them now.

Yes its completly normal for each aligner to feel looser after the first few days of use. The teeth movements occur from the pressure the first 2-3 days and the rest of the 2-3 weeks of wear for each aligner is just holding the teeth in the new positions, allowing for root healing.
Its nice the pressure is only on for a few days and take advantage of the "rest" with less or no pressure for the remaining time for each aligner!

Alright, time for my two week update on here. I should just start a blog, but it's a little late now.

Just put in my 8th of 10 trays on both top and bottom. These are probably the tightest trays I've had so far, but I don't have really any pain. When I switch trays I normally put them in at about 8:30pm the night before, pop a few Ibuprofen and leave them in until about 8:30 the next morning. I think leaving them in for 12 straight hours (most of which is sleep) helps nullify most of the pain.

Anyway, I go back to my orthodontist in 2 weeks for a check up and to get my last two trays! The end is in sight...I just have to hang in there for 6 more weeks.

I got my attachments re-done today. My ortho also filed away the extra glue so I can floss again.

This was day 3 and I am still feeling pretty great. I only have a few sore spots in my mouth and taking the trays out is getting easier. I still can't seem to eat hard foods and at the end of the day the trays seem a little annoying and I wish I could just take them out. (I am the same way with my wedding ring and glasses.)

I started with Invisalign on Monday. I did not ask how many trays I would get, but the treatment should take between 9 and 12 months, according to my ortho. I had braces when I was a teenager and that took care of the overbite and other major stuff. Now I need to realign my lower teeth since they moved because of pressure from my wisdom teeth. While Im at it, Im also taking care of the gap in my upper teeth.

For now, I only have one attachment on an upper, right-side molar. Im not having any trouble removing the trays and the pain is what I expected it to be its like when I had braces. My lips are very dry because I usually wear lipstick and Im not now, for fear of it staining the trays. I need to go buy lip balm! I have trouble talking without a lisp. I hope this will get better with time.

People are not noticing it and coworkers who spot me removing the trays before lunch are blown away when they realize Ive had them in my mouth for a few days now and nobody noticed them. My gap has already started to close in my upper teeth amazing. Im only taking them off to eat because I want to maximize results, even if sometimes I want to tear my face off because of the pressure in my mouth at the end of the day. I take a few Motrin if it gets to be too much.

Im going to document every step on my Flickr account, if anybody is interested. This is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/allabouteve/sets/72157602167694260/

On my last couple of hours with tray 2. Going to the Ortho. in a little to get my attachments. I'm going to have 12 in total and I believe they are mostly going to be on my front ( more visible teeth ) I'm really not looking forward to it, but I guess I'll manage. I'll chime in later after they are on.

Why do some people get the attachments after wearing the trays without them? I thought if you were going to have attachments you would get them right away before getting any aligners.

I'm think that some Orthos wait a couple of trays to get use the change in life. I somewhat feel for the people that got their attachments on during the first trays. My first 2 sets were without attachments. I felt a little pressure, and they were easy to take out.
I got my 12 attachments put on about 6 hours ago, and the pressure was double that of my first 2 trays, but the pressure is gone already. I took them out to eat dinner after about 2 hours, and Yes they took longer to take out, but I'm talking about maybe 20 seconds longer a tray. No big deal. Fingernails are your friend
Having 12 attachments isn't as bad as I thought it would be. They're on the 4 front teeth on top, and they are not as noticable as I thought they would be. I think I'll be fine for the next 10-11 months.

I got my attachments right away. I am on day 2 of my 2nd tray. The attachments are definitely weird and took some getting used to. The first few times I took my trays out I could have sworn I would rip a few teeth out with the aligner!

Thank you lilypad. My teeth are definitely moving since getting these attachments put on. I visited my mother today, and she already sees a change in my teeth. Other than my bite feeling different, I haven't noticed a visual change All I can say is " More Pain, More Gain" Bring it on baby!!

Ok I feel like an old fogey but...I just got my Invisaligns this June at age 41. I'm scheduled for 24 upper trays and 31 lower.

My two cents:
1. Yes they do hurt, especially at first - I have found Advil to be my friend. Deal with it - it will be worth it in the end.
2. Listen to your orthodontist and do NOT leave your trays out more than recommended to avoid loose teeth/crowns. I keep a toothbrush and case both at work and in my purse - after eating and brushing the trays go right back in!

I have found it easier to ask to view the final trays every time I go in for a follow up visit

Hello everyone,Im 35,and hav too decided to go for the Invisalign treatment. I had braces when I was around 16,I guess thats why I have maybe the fewest number of trays of anyone on this board. I have 7 trays on the bottom, and 6 trays on the top. I on my 3-4 week of invisalign treatment, and I dont really have any problem with them so far. My biggest complaint was crowding on the bottom front,so hoping the invisalign fixes that. I do my best to leave the trays in as much as possible,I would guess around 20-22 hours per day. I really havent had any discomfort when I switched trays, but I can tell they are there for a the first day or so,then I forget about them. I stick to just drinking water when they are in,and no eating. I had a retainer after my braces were off at 17,but I never wore it. But I think, now that I am the one paying for the treatment,I will stick with whatever the retainer is better after the treatment is finished. Has anyone tried whitening with their trays? I ended up with little lines on my teeth on the bottom, maybe I used too much bleaching material the first time or two.

Time for an update, and some more questions.

A couple of days ago, I graduated to my second tray. They were REALLY tight, and I struggled to get the top one on. The pain was something I never knew my teeth and jaws could feel. I think I went well over the recommended dose of advil, and somehow managed to fall asleep. The next morning, the pressure was there but the pain was essentially gone. It was tough to put the trays on and off that first full day, and I had to take advil again the second night.

But now, no pain, no pressure! Also, my swelling is almost entirely gone, and I think my lisp is mostly gone as well. If anything, I lisp without my trays now (is this okay?).

For those of you who are worried about the swelling and tongue soreness, don't worry. I developed an extreme reaction during the first few days, and even though the sores and swelling aren't entirely gone, it's a world of difference. Just hang in there for a couple of weeks! I'm also thinking of weaning myself off the dental wax, just so I don't have to deal with it during the course of my day.

Unfortunately, yesterday two of my teeth felt sensitive and a bit loose. They feel better today, but I got a little worried. Is it normal for teeth to feel loose and sensitive? I really hope I don't lose my teeth in my attempts to fix my smile.

Also, does anyone notice their bite feeling weird? It seems like not all of my teeth are connecting when I have my trays off. It makes chewing awkward. My bite was really good before invisalign--am I going to ruin my bite now?

Yes all of that is normal thru the course of the treatment. The bite will be strange at times especially while the teeth aren't settled yet. Get some of the sensitive teeth toothpaste like sensodyne or other brand and use it regularly, works great but it can take a week or two of regular use to help a lot.

Hang in there, sounds very typical of what I experienced early on and I recently finished my year-and-a-half invisalign series and now have the clear retainers. My bite is solid and seems perfect now after it all. Before invisalign often while eating my jaw would seem to slip a lot and I would cut my lower inner lip or tongue at times. That all seems to be gone now with the new proper alignment, but you have to wait for all the major tooth movements to occur and settle.

Hi, I'm new to this invisalign, I'm going to be examined for the first time, I haven't gone to the dentists for about 3 years and I have really slacked on my hygiene on my teeth when I was younger. I never had the courage to go to the dentists because when I was little I always was given a tooth pulled or some sort of shot, so now when I go to the dentists Its like seeing Freddy Cougar. Anyway, I called about the appointment for this Thursday and they said that they would examine me to see if im eligible. Now I'm 2nd guessing because I have a tooth that is dam near backwards and having a bad feeling that I'm not gonna be able to do invisalign. I have yet to see anyone yet to be denied by the orthodontics, Is it possible? I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks!

I think it's normal for your bite to feel weird when you take the trays out. Note I didn't say "wrong" - because your bite is actually improving, so it's going to feel weird. I'm nearly done with my upper trays and 1/2 way through my bite felt totally off while my molars were expanding. It's a little better now. It improves as you go up in aligners.

Also - I noticed that with the last few aligners my teeth move throughout the 2 weeks rather than just the first couple of days. Like one will get into position and that allows the aligner to press another into position. The front teeth get done last (thank god I'm finally at that stage...)

Wear your aligners at least 21 hours! Now that I am, it's working. When I wore them maybe 17 hours...no luck.

I've just got my impressions done this week and will have to wait about 3 weeks to see my clincheck. Is this how long it usually takes or my ortho is just taking longer than usual? Oh well ... we'll see how it goes when I go to see the clincheck.
I have a spacing problem mostly in my top teeth but will have to wear aligners on the bottom ones as well because that's just how it's supposed to be. Did anyone else here have a spacing problem and if so how did it go? I'm a little nervous now after reading some of the posts here. Hopefully I haven't made a wrong choice.

Fixing your teeth is never a wrong choice. I was a little nervous when I first got my trays, but I never thought it was the wrong decision. I half way through trays 3 and everything is fine. I got my impression done and viewed my Clincheck within about a week and a half. I've heard of people waiting for months, so it could either be your Ortho, or that Invisalign is busy.

That's exactly what I'm getting invisalign for. I have a 2 mm gap between my front two teeth, and some smaller gaps elsewhere. I'm on tray 2, and I'm really worried about what I've gotten myself into. However, I was NOT happy with the gap and I was becoming increasingly more self-conscious of it. The gap has been getting wider since I had my wisdom teeth removed, so there's a risk it might have become even more unattractive.

Anyway, I'm taking things slowly. My main problems now are the lisp both with and without invisalign. I think my tongue is just plain confused.

Does any one have any tips on making the /s/ sound? I think that's my worst letter...

Hi all! I had my records done and am scheduled to pick up my aligners in a few weeks. It seems like many of you have had success with moving teeth to fill gaps. However, I am the opposite. I have a little bit of crowding on one side by my canine (no gaps). So my dentist suggests trying to move my molars back to create room for my eye tooth. Has anyone had a similar situation like this? If so, was it successful?

I am My top teeth are pretty straight, minus a gap in the front two.

My lowers (front) are straight, but I have some rotation and spacing with my eye teeth.

I'm on 6 of 15 (upper & lower). Not much change yet, but I'm guessing I'll start seeing it soon

Same here. I have a big space in m front tooth and some minor spacing in others, also on the bottom.

I am now on tray 5/13 top and 5/15 on bottom and I am just now starting to see a difference in the top. It's not that big anymore so I am happy about this.

Not to worry about the s-sound. Trust me when I say it will go away within the first week or wearing this. I have gotten so used to these things now.

The only major problems I have is eating out - everyone looks at me funny when I walk into the bathroom to take them out and then brush before I put them back on. I also have trouble putting on a new set. It's so hard to go on and I'm afraid I will break them.

Other than that no problems.
