Hey everyone. One more newbie here. Just got my first tray in yesterday, so far so good. I have researched the topic extensively before I decided to go ahead. I was prepared as much as it was possible and was already dreading the pain, delays, disfigured speech and blissfully uninformed denstist. But fortunately none of it happended! I do feel for all the people with various difficulties especially with their dentists/orthos but I honestly believe an excellent dentist makes all the difference. Not to brag but my denstist is the best I could ask for. With my first retainer I do feel pressure, very minor pain if any, my lisp went away within literelly half an hour and the best part is: the dentist actually trained me to take my aligners off and wouldn't let me go untill I could do it with ease. I can only imagine how many people he goes through every week with Invisalign and yet he waited there for half an hour while I, with both my hands in my mouth and saliva dripping everywhere, was trying to get these things off. As a result, I had no issues taking them off at all. I also have his mobile number handy if I have any questions at all After revising the Clincheck with me he told me I will need refinements, right now I have 17U/16L but I am expeting to finish the whole treatment withing one year or so. All I am trying to say for all those people that are only thinking about Invisalign is find a person you are confortable with, shop around for an experienced Invisalign dentist/ortho and he or she will make all the difference. Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the forum participants that provide all the useful info for newbies like me. Keep up the good work guys

Hi Daria,I'm a very newbie - about to get my first plates on today. My dentist mentioned to me that he needs to drill two small holes in my bottom teeth. Do you know anything about this? I didn't read anything like this at all on the feed. Also, how is it going for you? It's been a few months. Thanks - Jamie quote: Originally posted by daria: Hey everyone. One more newbie here. I don't know what the "plates" you are referring to are. Invisalign only has clear plastic aligners (trays)I've never heard or had any drilling for invisalign at all. There may be shaving a little enamel between teeth and attachments/buttons added to some teeth using bonding compound, but no drilling. That might be for something else tooth related?

I'm 22 and about to enter the work force, so obviously a great smile will only help me be presentable...plus it's just awesome to have. I'm wondering, do you guys think I'm a candidate for Invisalign? My teeth are pretty crooked, and I've read that they work for minor adjustments, but at the same time I see before and after pics on the net that show some great improvements. This is a pic of my bottom teeth...too crooked? Should I just do braces? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/Astro101/Picture1-4.png

Hi! I'm a newbie! 28 year old female from England.I got my invisalign braces 4 weeks ago so im just finishing my 2nd set of 14. I have them on the top teeth only. My orthodontist said I need train-track braces on my bottom teeth because they were too crooked to be fixed with invisalign, and I need a few teeth removed. But by reading this forum I seem to be the only one? Maybe she was just being cautious and probably could have fixed them invisalign? :-S oh well I dont mind. They will be white appliances so not too bad. The first few days into my invisalign I hated them! i couldnt get them off! I honestly thought I was going to rip my teeth out! to make matter worse i went on holiday the day after i got them so I had them out quite a lot, due to snacking in the day and drinking at night. I kept them in for a few extra days so hopefully that was ok. My top back teeth feel a lot more sensitive too They ache a little especially when I drink anything hot or cold. Is this common? As for the buttons I have 6!! on my front teeth I think they are really noticable but so far i've only had 3 friends say to me 'Have you got a brace on your teeth?'

It's been a while since I've checked in, but wanted to give everyone an update. I finished my initial set of trays in spring, then had some refinements until just now. I had about a 2mm gap btw. my upper front teeth, as well as gaps elsewhere (top and bottom). Invisalign took me forever to get used to, but once I did I didn't have any problems. I'm thrilled with the results and it was totally worth the time and money.Today I got my retainers. I have a removable Invisalign retainer for the top teeth, and a bonded retainer for the bottom. Does anyone else have this combo? as long as my teeth don't shift back, I'll be happy! Has anyone had experience with a bonded wire retainer? Would it have been better to go with invisalign for the bottom? Are they equally effective?

I have both a top and bottom wire retainer. I also have a clear removal top retainer to keep my bite in check. I have had the wire retainer for two months now and other then the fact that flossing takes an extra minute I don't even realize they are there. Totally worth not having to wear trays anymore...

I read that current Invisalign patients are able to refer new customers. The new customers would receive $100 off treatment and the referrer would receive a $50 gift card. I have already gone through the consultation. Is it too late for me? If anyone knows how to send a referral, my email is jlb165@pitt.edu.On another note, I will be paying out of pocket for my Invisalign treatment. I am in Pittsburgh, and my ortho seems to charge a flat $5950 for each patient, regardless of length of treatment. I signed up for a dental discount plan through dentalplans.com for $115 that reduced my price by 20% to $4760. Anyone thinking about Invisalign should check out the site. If you use my referral code (52B46J30), we will each receive 3 additional months.

It's week 4 and I've been feeling very chuffed that people have not noticed. Until yesterday when a colleague asked if I had a growth on my teeth! Nearly died, if only there were no attachments! They look worse with the brace off don't they, so that's an incentive to keep them on!

I'm finally on my way to refinements - two months earlier than expected. I tried putting on my 41st aligner on the bottom (of 44) and they just stopped fitting. I had a sneaky suspicion for awhile that this would happen as the bottom aligners just didn't seem to be tracking right with my ClinCheck. I finally got around to calling and of course, the ortho was going to be gone for a week... so the person I spoke to told me to try going back a tray or two to find one that fit properly. (I was complaining about one specific tooth that the tray wasn't even touching.) From everything I've read here, I figured that made sense, so I decided to try. Oh man, BAD IDEA! First, I couldn't even find a tray that would sit on that tooth anymore (????) and secondly, my front teeth did not like the tray I settled on (#38). Excruciating, so eventually, I switched back to #40 and just waited it out. My poor teeth are still sore from it. So, I went in yesterday, got new molds made, and I should have my refinements in a few weeks! So excited - can't wait to see how many more trays I need. (Hopefully not too, too many! After almost 2 years, I am very ready to be done.) Right now, I'm just excited that all my attachments are gone!

Hey everyone, I'm a new user of Ivisalign and I've been reading these boards for some time. Gret info on here. I havea couple of questions. I've had my aligners for 3 days and I've noticed that when I take them out, my bite is off!. My back teeth don't seem to touch. My bite was completely normal before. Is this common? Is my bite getting ruined by the Invisalign? Thanks, any input is greatly appreciated.

This is common as only a few teeth are moved at a time. You may notice your bite changing often. =

Got my refinements today! I was really excited to go in - anxious to see how many more trays I had. (I've been checking my ortho's site for days, hoping to see the new ClinCheck.) I originally had 38U/44L, but we did the refinement at 40L. So the refinements - 30U/L! I was expecting like 10U and maybe like 15-20L, but 30? That kinda bummed me out, but on the upside, the new trays fit SO MUCH BETTER. I asked the ortho's office to check into getting my ClinCheck uploaded, because now I'm very curious as to what all these movements are going to be. It feels weird having attachments again, but I'm glad they aren't lingual this time. My tongue hated the lingual ones. I apparently am going to have a lot more IPR this time. Should be fun. :P And according to my file, I'm going to have a bazillion attachments, but my tech assured me that the dr. just likes having the option of putting them, but he probably won't put them all on. I started this whole process in Nov '06, and now I don't think I'll be done until Jan '10. :/ Oh well! Hopefully, it'll be worth it - it has been so far! Man, it feels weird to have trays that actually fit again...actually, it just feels nice to feel pressure against my teeth again. Hopefully, the next year goes as fast as the past two have.

Oh my god, that is a lot of refinements, well done to you for keeping so positive! So did you have the attachments taken off at some point? Did you choose to have lingual attachments or was that what was advised? I really would like shot of the attachments at some point! They dont bother me, it just makes them more noticeable. Hope time continues to fly for you!

During my initial treatment, I had attachments put on and taken off at various times. When we did the refinement, the ortho took off all the attachments before we did the molds. It was so nice being attachment free for a few months. I'm not used to having them again (still) - especially because they're on different teeth than what I've been used to for the past two years. I was accustomed to biting down in a certain way and now I have to readjust. As far as lingual attachments, it was just part of my treatment. I actually noticed my tech didn't put on one attachment that would have been lingual. I'm going back in a couple weeks for more IPR so I'll ask about it then.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some severe sensitivity? This is the first time I've had this bad of a time with it. I'm 4 days into my tray and usually the pain is over by day 2. Pain is essentially gone, but the teeth sensitivity on both my lowers and uppers is really unbearable (it's keeping me up at night). Any suggestions besides Orajel, painkillers, and Sensodyne toothpaste?

It's not really the same thing, but I've had attachments come off accidentally and have to be replaced. In those situations, they came off clean. Also I've had my ortho had to reposition an attachment for the next tray, and I can't tell where the original one was. Hope that helps! Also a refinement is a series of trays done after the initial invisalign treatment to "refine" or fine tune the position of your teeth. You can get up to 3 and it should be included in your price.

Hello all,Started Invisalign treatment yesterday - 12U and 12L - hve one of those "bumps" on one of my front teeth - so much for the INVIS part of Invisalign. The treatment is supposed to last about 6 months - look forward to the final result despite the initial pain and the pain in the butt of taking the upper tray off.

I had attachments on my bottom teeth for a little over a year. It took about 2 minutes to take them off and you could never tell they were there.

I've made a appointment for the Invisilign Info Gathering which is in a couple of weeks time. I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing and it's taken me a few months to decide to go ahead! Can anyone give me advice on questions I should definitely ask my dentist at this stage, as it seems like a lot of people weren't given the full story until treatment started. Thank you!

Time for another update! I'm on retainment stage--I have a permanent bonded wire on the bottom 6 teeth and a removable Invisalign retainer for the top teeth.A short while ago, I switched to a fresh invisalign retainer for my top teeth. Wowsers! It was TIGHT! It felt just like getting a new tray that was moving my teeth, so clearly after 3 months there is a regression. It took almost a week for the pain and tightness to subside. The bottom wire retainer is really annoying, I'm still not entirely comfortable with it, and I've noticed I floss less regularly because I can't be bothered with even a minute more of effort. BUT...I'm also getting tired of the removable retainer for my top teeth. At first, my dentist said I'd eventually be able to move to nighttime only wear for the top retainer, but he's now thinking a permanent bonded retainer for the top teeth. I don't find the bottom wire comfortable even after over 3 months. (Of course, you might remember me as the one whose mouth and tongue exploded with swelling and discomfort for over a month when I first got invisalign--clearly my mouth doesn't like foreign objects!) I'd love to hear thoughts on retainers. What's worked best for others? I love my new teeth, but I never appreciated the length and annoyance of retainment. It's frustrating...

I've worn the invisalign clear retainers for over a year now, top and bottom. I didn't want any wires bonded to my teeth, only removeable retainers. After a year I ordered a year subscription to the new Vivera retainers where they ship you a new set every 3 months. I felt a little pressure from the first set but less than a typical aligner state, so my teeth hadn't shifted significantly after an entire year of wearing them 16-20hrs/day average.I'll check again when I get the next set in January after 3 months of wear, but I think I can use each set for up to one year or so. Allowing me to stretch the four sets to four years since over time the teeth should shift even less and I can probably go to nightime only wear from now on. Years from now I may order the standard type retainers for indefinite night only wear (Hawleys) since they reportedly don't wear out and are more durable.

If you had a regular Invisalign case (not express), then you can ask for a refinement. New molds will be taken and a new set of aligners will be made for you. quote: Originally posted by VolJohn: ok, so I am a 23 year old male and I am on my second to last braces for the top and my two front teeth are straighter...but they are not as straight as I thought they would be... or what the computer model showed?my question is I am 3 weeks away from my next appointment and dont know what to expect? can anyone help me out?

Your Invisalign payment should cover up to three refinements with no additional charge from Invisalign. I think Invisalign tends be used to correct fairly minor orthodontic cases, so if your crowding is severe, they might not be effective enough. Plus yes it's very expensive. I had metal braces from the the ages of 18-19, and they worked wonders for my teeth. And there's no need to be self-conscious, no one ever made fun of me and I never had any problem getting romance So really I feel Invisalign are not worth it...http://bestdentalcareaz.com/chandler.php
