Your case looks similar to mine. I think my case is a little more severe than yours. I would think you would be a candidate for invisalign, probably ~1 year treatment time. Use the invisalign website to find dentists in your area. Call and ask if they offer a free consultation. The costs in the U.S. seem to run $4.5k-6k. Costs are eligible for FSAs.

good luck

My lower teeth were very crowded originally such that one tooth pushed forward and the teeth next to it had pushed in behind so there wasn't room for that tooth anymore between them.

It took a year, but invisalign expanded my lower arch and spread the teeth out making room for that tooth, now they are all lined up perfectly. No removal of teeth was needed at all!

Does anyone know why having an overjet actually helps when closing up space between your front teeth? My ortho assistant told me that my 9 mm overjet will actually help when closing up my 3 mm diastema. I started thinking after I got home and was curious why?

It's meeee again! LOL. They will push your teeth back as well as together to close the gap.

So I guess by pushing the teeth back, it will automatically close the gap??

Hi All,

I just started on my first tray a few days ago and had a few questions regarding the attachments. When my doc showed me the clinicheck(sp?) videos, I noticed 4 attachments in the videos. Someone in this thread had noted that there's an option to display/hide the attachments, but I'm guessing this is an all-or-nothing option? I didn't see any attachments on the front teeths but reading some of the posts here has gotten me worried that maybe they were hidden in the videos. My dentist told me that I won't be getting the attachments until the 3rd tray - is this why my current tray doesn't have any slots for attachments? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well,it depends on your individual case, how they will close the gap. In my case, they pushed back and moved the front 7 teeth. A small gap then formed between the 1st and 2nd teeth on the right. Small gaps had kinda showed up all over during my treatment in those 7 teeth. He said if I hadnt had a small overbite, I would have had to have the bottom teeth moved to make room.

Hi,
I am on set 3 and I need some serious cleaning advice. The best thing I have done is always soak them in water while they are out....that helps so much. I also have the Invisalign cleaners and Efferdent....do not know how often to use these though??? About 9 or 10 days into the 14 days the aligners STILL get that nasty icky deposits (plaque?) and start smelling, too. Now I'm wondering if I need to brush the aligners 3 times a day? Use the efferdent or invisalign crystals every day? Please Help!

Thanks!

You can use tablest like Efferdent daily, but I've had good results using it every 2-3 days with some light brushing in between. I just hold the aligners up to a light and if its still very clear its OK if it starts to get cloudy its time for a soaking cleaning during the next meal.

Hi i write from Italy and i am currently on my second set of trays. I have a problem with the new upper tray. It pushes my frontal incisor hard towards my lips. But it also pushes a part of my gum/gingiva. So a part of my gum has moved up in the internal side. It is no straight anymore but it has now the shape of a gulf.
I can touch this kind of reversed "U" with the point of my tongue.
I can' t phone my denstist rigt now, his cell is out of signal.
Do i have to worry or this is normal?

I drew a picture of my problem.
In the picture Prima=before, Dopo=after Dente=Tooth, Gengiva=gum/gingiva

Badboy, I agree with this. Based from previous advice from your and Anne's posts, I use a generic brand of Efferdent that Target makes. I actually like them (and they're cheaper than Efferdent). They turn blue to white in about 15 minutes so you know when it's done. I'm a bit anal about cleaning my trays. But that's just me. No problems with smells just yet.

Hi Anne,

That is encouraging to hear that invisalign took care of your gap and overjet. I think I have a larger gap and a 9 mm overjet so hopefully it will help with that. Do you know how much your overjet was corrected? I get my aligners next week.

I got my impressions done today and I'll be getting my trays in four weeks. I have spacing in my front teeth with two slightly crooked front teeth and an overbite. I am excited to get started and nervous about getting those trays. I played sports in high school so I hope the braces are similar to mouth guards if so I should be ok. I went to several ortho and was told by just one to bypass invisalign so I think this should work. I know a couple of people who are using invisalign and they seem to like how their teeth have moved.

I was supposed to get my trays tomorrow, but my ortho when into labor early so now I have to wait until May 21 when she is back from maternity leave...so disappointing. However, I did find out that I will be getting 27 upper and 24 lower which is alot better than I thought. My ortho was originally thinking 18-20 months.

I am in my 6th week of what I'm calling my dental pregnancy (9 months of Invisalign).

As far as cleaning goes, I figured out very quickly that the aligners smell if you let them dry out, so I try to leave them in water whenever I can. That also seems to make it easier to put them back in. I tried putting a little clear mouthwash in about 4oz of water, but the aligners got cloudy. Brushing with a toothbrush scratched them. I ended up getting RetainerBrite tablets and the aligners are very clean and clear. They are similar to Efferdent but are designed specifically for clear orthodontic appliances. You can order them online and they're not very expensive. I've also found that a Q-Tip works great if you have some white buildup inside the trays.

The best thing you can do is rinse your mouth with mouthwash whenever possible before putting your trays back in. I have a small travel size bottle of mouthwash that I keep in my purse, and I refill it every night.

Question for everyone out there: 6 weeks and I'm still salivating like a rabid dog. I read in a few posts that it's a reaction to having foreign objects in your mouth, and that it goes away at some point. How long did it last for everyone?

The most helpful tip on this board by far is the one suggesting putting in new aligners at night instead of in the morning. The first 2-3 days of any aligner -- when your teeth are doing the most moving -- are the most uncomfortable. Why not sleep through as much of the discomfort as possible? I put in a new tray after dinner or at bedtime and pop a couple of Tylenol. It's working great.

The "Invisalign Diet" is a great side benefit. I lost 7lbs in the first 3 weeks. My top front teeth are incredibly sensitive since I've started this treatment. I can't bite down on anything, and have been eating lots of soft food. In fact, I've become addicted to risotto. I make a big batch (about 6-8 servings) on Sunday afternoons, and eat it all week long. Anyone have any good recipes? I'd be more than happy to share my roasted chicken and artichoke risotto recipe if anyone wants it. I'm trying a roasted sweet potato risotto this weekend, and I'll let you know how that turns out.

Just thought I'd update on my case.

I finished my initial series of 15 u & l at the end of February. I went in to get the molds redone for my refinement series. I knew I needed it as a few small spaces didn't close. I picked up my new series of 6U & 8L on Tuesday.

I would still recommend this to anyone. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. That being said, I'm looking forward to being done. The big movements are all complete and the "fun" is gone

Wow, how disappointing. She doesn't have anyone to cover for her? I guess I won't complain that I have to wear this set for 3 weeks instead of 2 because my dentist isn't available for an appointment until then.

Goodluck

Unfortunately, she is the only ortho in her office that is certified in Invisalign. The good news is that I will be getting them right before Memorial Day weekend so that will give me a few days to adjust before going back to work.

Oops. I think I reposted without actually including my post. Anyway, Jason something similar happened to me when my Ortho recently had to undergo emergency gallbladder surgery. She was estimated to be out for 3 weeks. Fortunately for me she had the procedure done laproscopically, which has a shorter recovery time. She too is the only Ortho certified for Invisalign and this was going to keep me on my third tray til mid April because of scheduling and her vacation time and Spring Break.

My suggestion, in case your ortho decides to come back early and work a few hours a day to get used to work again before officially coming back, ask the office that if someone cancels or if she decides to do this to be scheduled in. She may not do this... but she may as the leave end comes closer.

Sorry to hear about this.

Thanks Baby...I am ready to get started. Since our cases are so similar, how has your speech been? How about the noticeability of the aligners?

Ok, well that went fast! I had nine trays total, top and bottom (express). I was wondering if i'd need refinement due to some slight things i noticed, but doc said no they look great. she did a tiny bit of sanding. my teeth are so pretty! now, i'm just waiting on retainer. I wanted the wires, but she can't do it on the top due to my bite, so i might as well get both top and bottom in the invisalign trays. i'll get the buttons off when i get my retainers and and get whitening. I thought the treatment was a breeze. i just brushed the trays well whenever I brushed my teeth. I did drink clear liquids with it ..no prob. Actually drank colored soda at the movies with no probs..just brush asap when i get the chance. no odor problems. i liked invisalign!

here's an odd question. for those of you with attachments...notice how your lips kind of stick to them? anyone found anything good so your teeth glide over them smoothly? vaseline gets them gummy.

Intraday, when I remove them to eat I only rinse them with water.
I brush them at night and Efferdent them in the morning. The brush removes the white stuff, if any.
I'm on my 24th out of 26 so I got down my daily routine.

My speech is fine now... totally not noticeable, and I many times forget that I have the aligners in. The one new development is that I sometimes have dry mouth for the first few days that the new tray is in. I assume that it may be from the plastic in my mouth or maybe something that they treat the trays with that is causing this. It usually goes away after a few days once I've rinsed them several times.

So I am on my last top tray (with 4 more bottoms to go). Its strange, I think I liked my top teeth better in my second to last tray then I do now. I guess I have some time to talk to my Ortho since I still have a few months with my bottom trays. I never thought I would be come so so picky, but I guess if you are going to go through the hassle of these things you want them to be just perfect.

< Its strange, I think I liked my top teeth better in my second to last tray then I do now. >

I think thats very common. They tend to overcompensate a bit on the last aligner or two since the teeth may move back one stage eventually. At the end of the treatment you can request the invisalign retainers be made based on an earlier aligner number rather than the final one. I did that after my refinement series since I found my lowers went a bit too far, so I had them make the lower retainer based on #4 rather than the final #6 of my refinement series. But if its very slightly noticeable like only one stage, consider the teeth may move back one stage months later.

I just got first set of aligners today and so far I am pretty pleased. There is a dull ache that is gradually increasing which hopefully I have knocked on the head with some panadol.

My ortho told me today that as well as gentle brushing with toohpaste to clean the aligners, you can also soak them in a 1 part vinegar 5 part water solution. He advised against anything like efferdent.

Has anyone tried the vinegar solution?

Another cleaning tip that works I've used is soak aligners while you eat a meal in some hydrogen peroxide solution (low cost, available at drug stores) mixed with water, about half-an-half. A little scrubbing with toothpaste once in a while too.

I followed the advice given by badboy when I started. I used the UK equivalent of denture cleaner (Steradent) which I put my aligners in while I had breakfast. I'd brush them with toothpaste first, rinse then steep. I had to wear the bottom aligners for four months as a retainer whilst the top ones finished, and even after four months they were crystal clear, no smell or anything. I also took the advice on the board and put my aligners into water whilst I was eating, as it's true, they go all cloudy if you let them dry. My ortho didn't offer any advice, I got it all from this board and it's been extremely helpful. Thank you all.

Thanks for that.

My ortho gave me a little container to hold them in, but I don't know if water would go in it conveniently. I might have to find an alternative.

I've had them in for a whole 24 hours now and it's amazing how it already feels like things have moved. I ate breakfast this morning and one tooth in particular just doesn't fit anywhere anymore!

I also haven't had any cutting or anything from the aligners, so so far, you can call me a very satisfied customer.

I also can't believe that non one is noticing them. No one is even mentioning the slight lisp. I don't know what I was so nervous about.

Hey guys, long time lurker and 1st time poster here. I've lurked around the forum for awhile specifically this post and have finally decided to "officially join."

I tried looking through the posts again but I still have a question. I had my molds for my mouth taken on Feb 28 of this year and have yet to receive my first set of trays from my doctor. How long did it take for you guys to get your first trays in?

shenphong, i'll tell a how long it took to get my trays....forever! really, patience is a virtue you must cultivate while waiting for trays. from the time i got my molds to the time i got my trays took 10 weeks. got my first set of trays on March 31st. they have been very nice to me so far with no mouth sores or too much pain. i'm ready for my second tray to be put in sunday night. i hear the second tray is a little rougher than the first, so i'll post more info next week. tips for first week users: *retainer brite cleans so nicely, *get a little case for your toothbrush, paste and container to hold the trays while eating-you will need this more than you think, *get some straws, *get many tubes of chapstick or blistex, *drink lots of water, *chew slowly, your teeth are moving and clank around in new spots.

Took about 6 weeks from moulds to having my first trays issued on Wednesday 9 April and I am in Australia. I was actually really surprised that once all the clincheck was approved and I said let's do it, it only took a week and a half for the trays to arrive. I was very pleased.
