I do the same thing. I have been wearing them for two months and can't seem to leave them alone. I am constantly clenching, grinding and picking at them. It actually feels really good in a weird way. I never clenched or grinded my teeth before. People say that I will get used to the aligners being in the mouth and will forget they are there.......Still waiting!

I did the same thing as well. I used to wake in the morning with the thought that I would have to "pry my mouth open" since my jaw seemed to the locked in a clenched position. This went on for quite a while and I can't honestly say how long it went on, probably a few months, mostly when my molars were being moved. I think it was a teething-like response. I haven't done it in quite a while now.

im currently on my 6th tray. i heard you need to wear a retainer at the end of the treatment once a week over night. do you have to do this for the rest of your life or a certain amount of time?

Most doctors advise wearing a retainer most of the day and night, nearly fulltime for several months after the braces or invisalign treatment is done. Then moving to nighttime only for some longer period and finally a few nights a week indefinetly. Teeth will always tend to move out of alignment for everyone, so the only way to prevent that is to wear retainers regularly as long as you want your teeth to stay straight. Personally now that I successfully got my teeth straight for the first time in my life after over a year with invisalign I want to keep that that way so plan on using retainers always, but hopefully reduced to only a few nights a week ultimately.

I saw the dentist today and all is well. I had the IPR thing done today in two spots. It was quick and painless. I can't figure out which teeth he did it between! I remember the general area, but can't tell.

I am excited to finally be on a regular 2 week rotation. I switched into aligner #4 today and was given #5 to switch into in 2 weeks. I compared my first aligner to #4 and see no difference. Eventhough I can't see any difference, I can tell things are changing some since I can floss easier.

Hi everyone,

I don't have a problem or a question, just thought I might introduce myself.

I am in that waiting period between clincheck and first tray. I expect to be in treatment for a while, 29U/9L. My ortho says 2 or 3 weeks per tray to see how the teeth move. I think it's about compliance, two weeks if you comply, three if you don't. I hope that's accurate.

I've had crossed and rotated front teeth and a slight overbite and slightly inward pointing lower teeth with a slight lisp for all of my life. I am just so excited about finally having straight teeth. I do have to have the front teeth restored once the treatment is complete, so I'm actually going to look worse rather than better the further I get through my treatment until I can have the restorative work done.

Anways, glad to be here and am learning so much from all of you all. Thank you.

Simone

Well after almost 8 months of treatment, I only have 6 weeks to go. The bottom teeth have moved into place as they were supposed to, but the top teeth still aren't right. I have one tooth at the front that is still slightly protruding and bent on a slight angle (it used to be a lot worse). This was the tooth I was really self-conscious about, and it upsets me that the one tooth I wanted fixed hasn't been. I only have 1 set of trays left for the top, so I can't see them being perfectly straight after just 1 tray. I will definitely need refinements.
For those of you that have had refinements, how long did they take to arrive? I'm really worried about it taking too long, it took almost 6 months to get my impressions done and aligners delivered to me last time. I don't want to wear my final trays for that long, I don't think they're intended for such long wear.
Also my dentist advised that he has to wait for all my teeth to be straight (renfinements completed etc.) before he can think about retainers. But seeing as my bottom teeth are perfect, but my top teeth need more work, I don't see why he can't order a retainer just for the bottom teeth? Wearing my last tray on my bottom teeth while I'm waiting for all the refinements to finish on the top sounds ridiculous to me! I may as well start the retainer process on the bottoms as soon as possible.

For me my refinement aligners last summer took about 6 weeks to arrive. I think they actually were at the office a couple weeks earlier but didn't get the call they came in until later. So I'd suggest calling the office every week or two to see if they have come in yet. The delay varies at different times of the year and the current case load at the manufacturer. Also if your doctor goes back and forth several times adjusting the case it can add some more delay.

Hi everyone, this is my first post.

My question is: Has anyone not been satisfied with the final results and asked for the treatment to continue?

I'm on my last tray for my uppers and two left for my lower teeth. I advised my orthodontist that I'm not satisfied with the upper teeth, particularly the two canines (upper teeth). I'm paying $5,200 for the treatment which includes everything, including additional trays, if needed. At this point, unless the canines continue to straighten, I'm going to request the treatment continue. My view is that I expect the best results possible for the money I'm spending. I think we would all agree that getting our teeth straightened is not only about the physical aspect of having straight teeth, but also about the psychological aspect of feel good about having straight teeth.

I'm not really upset, just annoyed. I finally got the nerve to call my dentist to ask where in the world has my clinicheck been. Low and behold, the desk clerk replied w/ "We've been waiting for you to come in." In my head I was wondering, "I've been waiting for you guys to call me." Wow, I should have called earlier. I didn't think to call until BadBoy wrote that it would be a good idea to call every few weeks or so. It has been 5 wks already and I wonder how long they have been in the office. So I've set an apt. for next Tuesday. I'm not sure if it's just to approve the clinicheck or to just finally start the treatment and get the trays. But if it is for my approval, how much longer would I have to wait to get the actual trays?

What was the average wait time for everyone (from 1st impressions taken 'til when the actual trays came)?

I hope that my dentist approved the clinicheck w/o me having to look at it and sent out for the trays to be made anyways (like how a few of the posters have said that they never even saw their clinicheck). That way I can get on the road of having straighter teeth. (kinda feel a little left out since most of everyone posting has been on their treatment for awhile now). =/

I had no idea that I had that much patience in me. I feel like I should have kicked myself in the butt for not calling earlier. Maybe a little bit of nagging doesn't really hurt.

The average wait time from impressions to trays is about 6 weeks, with about half this time due to the orthos office. I would say once your clincheck is approved your trays should be in within 2 weeks. If you see your clincheck, it will have a date on it when it was shipped from invisalign. In general, the turnaround from the company is very fast and most of the delays happen on the ortho side. (i.e. they wait for your trays to arrive before scheduling an appt, then 2-3 weeks before they have an opening, etc...) At this time you should save a movie (bring a USB drive) of your case from a few different views for future reference. Ask about IPRs and attachements while reviewing your clincheck. Confirm treatment time, how long between trays 2 or 3 weeks. Ask what happens if treatment fails, are refinements included in the price? These basic questions will prevent 90% of common compliants heard on here.

I had my impressions taken on September 5th. I received my first trays on December 13th. Believe me I thought they'd NEVER come in. I heard everyone saying after like 7 or 8 weeks they got their trays and I waited over 3 months. My ortho never let me see the clincheck but luckily i approved of it anyway. When they called me to make the appointment I didnt ask but I was really hoping it wasnt just to look at the clincheck, and luckily it wasnt.

Is it possible to remove the invisalign braces too often? My total wear time is still around 22 hours, but I snack often and I find I am taking them out 5-8 times a day. Am I stretching them or going to break them doing this?

Thanks Chris8796 and TPG20 for your replies.

So I have an apt. on Tuesday and I would like to be prepared when I go in. Addition to Chris' advice on what questions to ask the dentist, are there more to ask. So far I've made a list:

-IPRs
-which teeth they are going to do the procedure on?

-attachements
-how many?
-which teeth?

-refinement
-is it covered under the initial price?
-how many more trays am I able to receive?
-how much longer will that prolong the entire treatment?

-after treatment
-what's going to happen?

If anyone else wants to add on, please do so. I think the more questions the better so I won't be too surprised.

I take mine out alot also. I broke my first two sets of aligners, but haven't had any problems with the last two sets. I think I have figured out why I was breaking aligners and it has nothing to do with taking them out too often.

Does anybody have protruding front teeth and if so, how well does the invisalign work in correcting this? Besides having a large space between my teeth, I also have front teeth that need to be pushed back and am curious about how well invisalign does this.

I HAD an overjet with a fairly large gap - Invisalign took care of it easily in my case.

Ugh, I just got mine today. I have 7 buttons, 5 on my upper front teeth, which are SO awful. I'm really thinking of calling my orthodontist about options for this. They're very noticeable (people constantly stare at my teeth!) which I got invisalign to avoid. I'm probably going to call my orthodontist about options... my teeth really aren't bad so the visible buttons just aren't going to work for me.

Erica,

It's unfortunate your ortho didn't tell you about the attachments before you decided to go with invisalign. It happens all too often, it's all good news until the check clears. Once your committed, they break out the bad news. It's amazing some of these ortho stay in business with their communication skills.

I agree invisalign is much more noticable with attachments, they are still less noticeable than the other options. If you want your teeth straighten, it may still be the best option available. Either way you already have a lot of money invested, you might as well get something for it.

Try to think of it this way, the worst thing that can happen is someone will know your trying to improve yourself by straightening your teeth.

Good luck and hopefully your story has a happy ending.

yay! I'm so excited. My ortho is excited (or so he says). But like I said in a previous post, I had an apt. today (not sure if it was to approve the clincheck or to get trays. Unfortunately it was just to approve my clincheck. Fortunately, I'll be getting my trays in 2 wks. =) 17U/17L. double =) 8-9 months of initial treatment. triple =) AND NO ATTACHMENTS!!! quadruple =). My treatment includes IPRs to be done in the front but nothing major, the check said only .3mm in between teeth. The only major thing they will be doing is trimming my gumline along the tooth that will be doing the major moving. I guess just to make the gums align to each teeth, to even it out. Not sure how that will be done, but I'm up for it. Hopefully everything is going to be ok in the end, my dentist said it'll be pretty easy (which is probably why he may be excited) nothing too major to worry about. I'M ECSTATIC!!! YAY!! 2 weeks!

Well... I cracked my first set after only four days, so I guess the way I was taking them out caused too much stress in that location.

I put on my 9th tray (lower tray) last night, and it was way tto comfortable. This morning it came off easily, as though I've been wearing it for a week.
I'm thinking of switching to my 10th tray in a few days.
Has anyone done this before?

I'm thinking on moving on to the 10th tray in a week. Perhaps the 10th tray will be a lot tighter, and I can give my teeth more time to adjust to the 10th tray.
Has anybody done this?

While I am only on my second tray (and don't feel like I'm that experienced), I would advise against doing this. You don't know why or how the 9th tray is moving your teeth, and by moving up to the 10th tray could be hindering other things going on in your mouth. Just because it "feels" like it's not that tight, the 9th tray could be just as vital as the other trays. Why not just stick to the treatment plan your Ortho outlined and as long as the tray actually fit, go with that!

I drink beer with my aligners in. I take them out and rinse them periodically, depending on how long I will be drinking and then just brush when I'm done. I was kinda getting a bad after taste in my mouth from the beer getting in the aligners, so I tried switching to diet coke and captian morgan, but I think that was why I was cracking my aligners(the soda), so back to the brew. I brush, floss and swish with every meal, so I figure a couple beers with them in will be o.k. as long as I rinse periodically if drink for a long time and then following up with a good cleaning of the aligners and my teeth.

I also drink beer with my aligners in--so far I haven't experienced any problems, but I wonder if alcohol might make the plastic more flexible. Still, if I had to take my aligners out before going out, I'd be without aligners for 5 or 6 hours at least.

Anyway, I'm now on 12 of 13...I'm quite happy with the results, although my bite still doesn't seem right. Not all of my teeth are making contact. Also, there are some tiny gaps between some of the teeth, but hopefully that can be corrected with the last set.

Unfortunately, this current set seems to be digging into the gums near the roof of my mouth, causing quite a bit of pain and some swelling in that area--I even had some bleeding this morning. I tried to file down the edge of the aligner, but there's still quite a bit of pain.

Anyway, as I've suspected for a while, I'll need a refinement, at the very least to correct my bit and possibly to make some more aesthetic changes. My teeth look good now, but it's still not a hollywood smile...I'm looking at pictures online now to see what changes I might ask my dentist to make to achieve that look...hopefully I'm not getting too obsessed with having perfect teeth!

I have overcrowded teeth. I have the one teeth to the left which is growing in front of two other teeth.

Is it possible to get invisalign?

from what i understand, the procedure for normal braces would be to remove teeth, then straighten. is something like this possible with invisalign?
