Invisaglign isn't for everyone, no product ever works for everyone. As for me, I love invisalign! I have a total of 13 trays, I just put in number 5 and my teeth look amazing. They are already so straight, though they weren't really crooked to begin with, just some minor crowding on the bottom and one tooth on top that started to turn out. I was told to leave each aligner in for 2-3 weeks but I've been putting a new one in after 7 to 9 days because my teeth are moving sooo fast. The did do some "polishing" between the teeth which is basicaly filing down in between the teeth so that there is room for them to move. It's a little uncomfortable but not painful. I love invisalign, I'm so glad I got them. Don't get discouraged, it's not for anyone and I've been told it's really only best for minor cases.

You might want to talk to your dentist/ortho about switching retainers that early. Switching prematurely will not allow the bone to heal properly which can cause serious issues later on (tooth loss etc). Take a look at some previous posts on this board regarding premature tray switching...

I am thinking of getting Invisalign, but have some questions. I been looking on all these pages of the forum and havent noticed too many people who have finished the treatment. How straight has your smile become? Do most of you need braces afterward? How many of you require a retainer after the treatment? How long do you have to wear the retainer? Did anyone get an overbite fixed? I believe its the way to go, but i want to make sure i make the right decision before i spend 6k.

I've had lowers in to start treatment, but today was my first day with an upper aligner. When I put it in at the ortho's office, the front did not sit right, but he put the 8 buttons on anyway. It still did not sit right with the buttons. You can see a gap from the bottom of my front two teeth and the aligner, and the next two teeth over also aren't completely covered. He suggested I wear the aligner for half a week and it might settle in. I was used to the lowers "settling" when I first put them in, but this seems a lot different. Has anyone else ever experienced this with their front teeth? I can't even figure out if my teeth moved since the impressions, or the aligner just never was meant to fit. He said if it doesn't fall into place, I'd need new impressions for the uppers, which seems a lot more logical than wearing these ones that clearly don't fit right now.

I'm with you, J - Day 11 for me & they ARE awesome! No problems here either - so far it's all good. Was wondering if you guys having so much difficulty removing them (& I know more buttons must make it proportionally more difficult) - have you tried using a small piece of paper towel to grasp your aligner? It makes all the difference to me - & I do start by grasping one side of the back, then pop off the opposite before lifting the front. I do find my top easier to take out, likely because I only have one button there. Boy - my teeth/mouth have never been so CLEAN - that is definitely a bonus. No funky smells yet & am not using anything to brush them with except the electric toothbrush (as directed by my hygienist - & she is quite a perfectionist - of which I'm thankful) I do notice the slightest slisp still (s' & f's), and it seems be worse when speaking to customers at work - likely because I'm more self conscious then. Not really noticable to anyone else, though. Thankfully - no spitting on anyone. I deal with a lot of people in my service related job & THAT would just not do... How's it goin', Big E? Hope you had a good week in Miami! I was thinking about your question of posting pics somewhere & am considering starting a BLOG myself - if I get brave enough, I'll let y'all know...

Hi Anne,It's great to hear you and others are doing so well! Things are going very well for me too. The first 2-3 days I felt the pressure in my teeth and they were sore when eating and brushing. Also the aligners were a little difficult to get in and out. But now it's been almost a week, and there isn't really any discomfort or trouble getting them in and out anymore. They just snap right into place. No trouble speaking and no one notices them. So I'm real happy so far. I just hope I get a result close to what the computer model shows. Good luck! Eric

I'm considering invisalign to correct some crowding resulting from my wisdom teeth coming in (teeth were straight before from 18 months of braces back in high school). Any recommendations in NYC? Estimate of how much I'll need to pay? Consultation fees? Thanks!

I had my 1st "clincheck" this past friday..My teeth are moving great, the molars still don't meet.. The Ortho said that this is a VERY common occurance. With invisalign, The molars are shifted back 1st.. each tray has to take each molar movement into account so the top balances out the bottoms.. it's not uncommon for them to be misaligned.. We're used to the way they were, not what they are doing in transition. Initially, my buttons got in the way of my cheeks.. I bit the living devil out of my inner cheeks everytime I would take out the trays to eat. I felt like I looked like a cow chewing cud because I had to "Carefully" eat with food packed in my cheek pouches, chew down slowly so I was aware of the position of my cheeks before O close my teeth fully to grind.. It was a long tedious process that looked totally stupid, took me forever to eat, and I wasn't a happy camper. It's been over 2 months now and I am used to the buttons...I still can't seem to get over the taste of my food.. or maybe its the lack of taste.. What in the world is going on? Am I only one of a few with this complaint? The bitter taste initially when putting in a new set, then the diminished taste for a week or more after? Once I get my tatse buds back on track, its time to start back over with a new tray.. AAARRRGGGHHH!! How frustrating!!
quote: Originally posted by Andrea: Hello Relle, I noticed, too, that that my upper and lower molars are not meeting, but I thought it had to do with the attachments on my lower teeth. Since my attachments are very big, I'm not able to close my mouth the same way I used to before I got them. There is always some space between my lower and my upper teeth. But perhaps my molars have realy moved and are not meeting anymore. I hope this is going to be corrected until the end of my treatment. I also noticed a bitter taste in my mouth. It started with trays #4 which I'm wearing now. It is also true, that each tray has sharp edges at different places, but I notice them immediately and not only after some days of using the new trays. Well, tomorrow I'm changing to trays #5 (bottom 23, top 28) and I am really starting to see some tiny differences. Until now, everything went well and I'm very satisfied.

Hi Jayne, Welcome to the board. I think you will find that the Aligners will help you with your weightwatchers immensely. You will cut WAY back on the snacking. It's quite a bother to have to take them out, eat, then clean everything up immediately afetr eating, so, you find a way to eat a little bit later, so you only have 2 meals a day.. or no snacks at all. I have eaten on the hoof before, rinsed my mouth out and placed the trays back in. You can't imagine the smell in those trays when I finally got home to take them out and brush and floss properly.. I gagged myself.A freind has trays too, her Rotten coffee breath gags me, I can smell her breath 5 feet away in the morning..hours after she has had coffeee. I asked her.. Can you smell yourself? She takes out her tray, sniffs, then goes and brushes.. but that old rotten coffe breath still lingers. I don't want to offend anyone like she does me, and I'm sure many other people smell her too..So, I am self consious about my breath. So, I now carry with me, a brush, floss and paste and take care of my teeth immediately after eating. My concern was, the smell is the bacteria eating the food bits left in my teeth.. They are trapped in an oxygen reduced environment that is conducive of decay.I don't want to encourage rotten teeth, breath, or gums... I am spending almost 6 grand to have my teeth looking good. I need to take care of my investment so that it will last. I admit, I have too many dreams that I lose trays, or don't clean them and my teeth look horific, Or even worse, in my dream, I take them out and rotten, smelly teeth come out stuck in the trays.. EEEWW. I know, gross, but dreams tend to be from your unconsious fears.. I'm keeping my teeth clean. Good luck on the weightwatchers too.. I've lost about 10 pounds in just over 10 months.I only drink water too, thats a HUGE help to keep your mouth more fresh.
quote: Originally posted by Jayne: I found this board by accident, and I'm glad I did! I just got my aligners yesterday. I'm doing the Express, and will have gone through 10 sets by the time I'm done. It will take 5 months. Another case of traditional braces as a teen and wisdom teeth crowding!! I have "buttons" on some of my teeth and they are making it very difficult to get my trays out. I used a paper towel last night and it was much easier. I hope it will get even easier to take them out...it has already gotten easier putting them back in. I really like my ortho, but he didn't have me try it myself before I left the office. Next time I go, I'll make sure to try it with him there. I am very lucky - we have really good dental insurance from my husband's work, so the treatment is costing me around $900. But Express is supposed to be less expensive anyway.Another thing is that I am doing Weight Watchers, and I have snacks (that I can't skip) built into my day, so it will take some getting used to taking out/cleaning the trays a bunch of times a day. That might be a pain, but I have to do what I have to do! Do all of you clean after each time you eat or just once or twice a day? Thanks, Jayne

I'm so happy to find this site! I got my first aligner yesterday and I thought there was something wrong with them because I was in so much pain. Still really hurts to take them in and out today. Is this normal? I almost cry when I get in in. Not eating has pass my mind, so that I don't have to take them out. I still want to lay in bed till the pain has gone. What do you mean that I can't drink coffee? It's my whole reason for getting up in the morning. I hope this gets better. You have all given me a little hope and I'm not asking myself just what exectly have I gotten myself into. Thanks

I recenlty put a downn payment on Invsalign braces 2700$. Total cost is 5400( including cost of retainer at end of treatment). The factor that got me to do the treament was FSA at work. Flexible Spending Accounts reiburse for orthodontics. I could have waited till mid year to spread the cost till next plan year, but I went ahead and put payment down. I figured if I waited 4 months, I may not have the same initiative. Now all I have to is wait 4 weeks till the lab stuff comes back. I'm a little worried about adjustign once retainers are in place. Espcially during social situations, where I must remove them. But must become routine after a while. And I figure on the last day of a retainer tray, I have drinks socially and not have to woryy about staining the tray or cleaning the retainer the next day. The two hour window seems small to have the trays out. P.S. I'm around Boston, MA for those comparing prices.

$100 Invisalign Coupon via email. Just send me your email address and I can refer you to get $100 off your treatment. shawn.d.agee@chase.comHere is a small glimpse into what to expect when you receive your Invisalign. I just received mine yesterday. I have 15 sets of uppers and 24 sets of lowers. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my entire treatment would come in under one year as my bottom teeth are pretty "jacked up" if you ask me. I needed 2 attachments on the top and 2 on the bottom. Some slenderizing was done on 4 teeth which was literally the orthodontist using little ribbons of sandpaper to sand in between my teeth to make some room for the teeth to move. This was first done in between my 2 FRONT teeth! I had no idea I needed it done there. She was sanding for so long that I was starting to get nervous about how much she was removing. But once it was complete I realized there wasn't that much taken out. The biggest surprise of all - how EASY they are to take out. This forum had me all worried about that aspect! I had visions of yanking away in the bathroom for half an hour. One post claimed it took 5 minutes. Come on! The very first time in the orthodontist's chair I had them both out in about 20 seconds. It's my 2nd day and already I can remove them both in about 10 seconds total. I can hardly believe the earlier post where someone claimed they had to skip their first meal because they couldn't remove them. I'd say opening a stubborn jar is harder than removing these - it's not as hard as it seems on this board. But maybe everyone's case is different. One thing that was not noted yet - Invisalign supplies you with 2 little clam-shaped cases to hold your aligners in when they are out. I just use a mug or cup at home or at work. My total treatment cost was $4000 in Columbus, Ohio at Crown Point Dental. Once again, please send me your email address if you'd like a $100 off coupon... I get a kickback for referring anyone.

I smoke with them and they haven't left stains, with them getting swapped out every 2 weeks it's not bad...also, it's probably protecting my teeth from further staining. I use the cleaning system to clean them and that helps too. Good luck!

I have an overbite and a front tooth that was knocked back from sports. I was told the retainer would be needed the rest of my life at nighttime. I think it's more to keep my teeth from moving back. I did a lot of research and I love them, I haven't finished yet, yes they make your teeth sore for the first few days, but straight teeth is something I want alot...so I deal with it. I am very concerned about this since I don't want to wear them for a year and have nothing to show for it. I would appreciate it if a dentist would reply to this. I called my dentist and asked him and he said that it was good that I didn't have any pain and that the process was very gentle. I am very suspect, again, because how can my teeth move without pressure? My dentist told me my procedure should take about a year.
Hang in there Pat, I think you'll feel them eventually, my bottoms don't hurt much, but my tops sure do. I think it depends on what they're trying to achieve first in the movement of your teeth and how much space you already have, I had space so they just started moving them on top, but on bottom I didn't so they're slowing moving those to make the space. Hang in and get used to the routine, you'll wish you could yank them out when they start moving them more. :-)

Use a SOFT toothbrush so that you don't harm your gums. I had that problem a few years back before I finally learned that softer toothbrushes were better for my gums, I notice a big difference in my gum health too.

I am very satisfied and I can see changes already. @Karen you might want to rethink the smoking thing. I quit when I got mine. It was tough but well worth it. Other than the obvious dangers of smoking it decreases the blood flow to your mouth. This is not a good thing when you need your gums and jaw to heal fast. You could endanger your treatment.
Anyway...enough preaching Invisalign rules.

Definitely only use SOFT bristled brushes, guys - you can actually wear down your tooth enamel with harder ones. Also, try not to use any more than a pea-sized amount of toothpaste (gels are less abrasive, too) when you brush. Here's something interesting: While brushing yesterday, I decided to pop my trays into about a 1/2" of Listerine in the usual clear, hard plastic ("Lucite" maybe?) cup I keep for soaking them in at home. They were in it for maybe 5 minutes while I brushed/flossed. Took them out; gave them a once-over with my toothbrush, then rinsed as usual before putting them back in my mouth. When I went to rinse out the cup - there was an unremovable "film" left behind where the Listerine had been - almost as if it had etched the plastic. OK - so that's not likely a good thing to be soaking your trays in for any length of time (full strength solution, I mean) if it can do that to hard plastic. I'm on Day 15 of this first set & am not going to change to the next set for 3 more days - just suits my schedule better to switch out on Sundays. This set is absolutely crystal clear so far & I haven't been using anything to clean them at all besides a drop or two of antibacterial dish soap in the soaking water during breakfast - that's been it until I decided to try the Listerine bath. All this talk here of different methods/products to clean trays just prompted me to do sumthin'... Guess I won't try that again...

Hey everyone. Wow, I haven't been here in months, and there are TONS of posts now. My first post was way back on Page 2, when I first got invisalign. Is it normal to feel proud about that?Let's see... I am on tray 26 of 29 total. Here's a few notes about my invisalign experience: 1) The first 12 to 14 trays were the most uncomfortable. I think because these were shifting the molars. All the rest have been just kinda tight. 2) I started noticing rapid results at about tray # 18 or 19. Within 3 or 4 trays, there was a drastic difference in my front teeth. That was neat. 3) My discipline, or lack thereof, fell to crap about tray # 17. I have days where I'll forget about it after lunch and go hours without it in... I'm probably wearing the trays about 18 hours a day on average. 4) Since tray # 10, I've been switching trays every 12 days. Even with my shoddy daily wear time. I'm evil. Thats about it. Great results so far, with only one tooth left to be "twisted" straight! I'll post links to photos when the treatment is complete. Take care!

Jwizzman, this is what someone told me:Use a soft brush, dont push too hard (the food isn't caked on) and only use a small bit of toothpaste. After I eat any meal I literally swish water in my mouth and between my teeth to make sure my teeth are free of anything, then give a nice soft brush over all teeth. I also did that before inviz so its nothing new... Brushing too hard or using too much paste can destroy the enamel. Also, studies have shown that brushing prior to 30 miuntes after drinking cola is very bad for teeth. So probably best not to brush directly after eating a meal that involves a cola type of product. I guess the cola puts the enamel in a state that brushing right after cola can break it down. quote: Originally posted by Jwizzman: I have a question: what's the deal with brushing teeth? Anne...was wondering where in Canada you are located? I was quoted $6,500 for invisalign treatment. Also, I had a question about the "buttons" they attach to your teeth. How do they determine which teeth they go on or how many are attached? The reason for me considering Invisalign was so that no one would notice if I was wearing them...seems like the buttos would be noticed if they are on your front teeth. quote: Originally posted by Anne: Another newbie here, folks. Did my homework before choosing Invisalign & so far all is going very well! Am only on day 4 of my first set of trays (23 for both top & bottom).Found some very useful tips here - especially like the paper towel piece for removing - works like a charm. I've 5 buttons (all on premolars: 5 bottom & 1 top) so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones - no one else can see them at all. Neither my husband or sons can tell I am wearing them. I actually think my teeth look better with them in - the gaps are minimized & they appear brighter (must be the "lens" effect). After my records appt. with final impressions made, my dentist "tweaked" the treatment plan several times until satisfied. Originally, my uppers (gaps & overbite) needed fewer trays (lowers are crowded), but was advised to have both sets in for the same duration & I'm quite happy with that. I think it would feel strange to have both & then only one for the remainder. I was shown my Clincheck for my approval before we proceeded. The trays arrived within 10 days after that. So far I've only felt some pressure the first couple of days - it was most apparent once the trays were removed upon eating - then, I could tell it was there! No pain to speak of, though (& I forgot to take a painkiller before my appt. like I read here - turns out I didn't need it anyway). No rough edges, either. The only thing I'm using to clean my trays is a couple of drops of anti-bacterial dish soap in the water they soak in. Just a Colgate Motion toothbrush to scrub. So far, so good. That link above contains most of the same info that's outlined in the Advisalign Consent/Agreement form that we all sign (didn't we?) My cost including whitening is $4500 Canadian with a payment plan. Like someone (Josh maybe) said here before: "Keep your eyes on the prize." Hang in everyone - time will fly by!
