Robert,

Don't be afraid to brush over the brackets --they will not come off, and you need to get them clean. I said it before on this post, and I'll say it again -- I switched to the Oral B 900 electric toothbrush, and it makes cleaning both my teeth and the trays a lot easier -- this toothbrush gets off more debris and film off of the aligners than manual brushing.

By the way, I just had the brackets taken off of my top teep (they're done!), and even though I still have a ways to go with my bottom teeth, I am really excited that I am at least partially through.

I've done a consultation to do Invisalign. My wisdom teeth caused crowding on 2 of my top teeth (I had braces 15 years ago). My orthodontist recommended Invisalign Express for 6 months on my top teeth only (bottoms are fine) for about $1700. Anybody know what the difference is between Invisalign Express and Invisalign? Also, for anybody that has also worn regular braces, is the pain of new trays similar to what you felt in the first few days after your braces were tightened? Thanks!!

Hello everybody,
after I've spent about 6 hours reading all posts from page 1 to 23, now it's my turn to write about my experience.
I live in Germany and first saw an ad about Invisalign in a magazine while on a plane from Brazil to Germany last July. I'm 35 years old and my teeth have been crooked (top and bottom) since I was 13. I've allways hated my teeth, but my parents never did anything about it when I was a teenager and later I guess I became too self-concious to wear metal braces. When I saw this ad, I thought: "Well, that could be an alternative!". When I arrived home, I searched for a certified dentist here in Germany and found several in Frankfurt. Since I work in Frankfurt, I just picked one out. I never thought about shopping around. Somehow the idea simply did not occurr to me. I'm paying 3500.00 Euros for the whole treatment including retainers. This is about 4100.00 Dollars.
The dentist (Dr. Wolf Schrimpf) explained all the details of the Invisalign method to me and told me that I was a good candidate. But first we had to make two new crowns. This process took about 1,5 months. Then he took the molds and sent them to the Invisalign lab. 2 weeks later the computer animmation was there and I could see what my teeth would look like at the end of the treatment. Dr. Schrimpf asked me whether this was really what I wanted. If so, then he would give the Invisalign lab his ok. Although I hated my teeth, there were many minor details about their crookedness that I had never noticed before (or they simply hadn't really bothered me considering the overall picture). For example, my two top front teeth are much longer then the ones around them. Dr. Schrimpf included the shortenning of these teeth and the lengthening of the teeth around them in my treatment program. I would never have had such an idea!
Well, I loved the last picture of the computer animmation and decided to go for it. Another 2 weeks later, the trays were there. I need 23 for the bottom and 28 for the top. One bottom front tooth had to be extracted to make room for the others, but this means that I won't have to have any shaving (IPR) done.
Last Thursday I went to Dr. Schrimpf to get the first set of aligners. I was a bit scared of the tooth extraction. I thought it was going to hurt. However, I felt nothing at all. Dr. Schrimpf also put 7 buttons on my bottom teeth and 4 on my top teeth. They scratch the inside of my mouth, when I'm not wearing the aligners, but I had no problem with sharp edges hurting my tongue. The first set was very snug and it was very difficult to take the aligners off on the first two days. Now (6 days later), it is much easier.
I had no real pain. Just a pressure during the first two days, which stopped very suddenly at the end of the second day.
Contrary to what some people wrote on here, I have no problem with a dry mouth. Quite on the contrary. Since I got the aligners, I'm salivating much more than normal. On the first 4 nights, my bed got all wet with my drooling all about myself. Last night this also subsided.
I have a huge gap at the bottom now right in the middle, but I don't care. When I'm wearing the aligners, it's even difficult to notice it. I'm so happy to have started this treatment. I took a picture of my teeth before the first day of treatment and I'm intending to take pictures every two weeks right before I change to a new set of aligners. I'm also planning on creating a website to show all my pictures in a row as soon as there is any visible change.
Thank you all for writing about your experiences. It was very interesting and comforting to read them. I'll keep reading your messages and posting everything worth mentioning.
Love,
Andréa.

Now I am getting a bit scared..I have a mild overbite and I believe that correcting that as well(apart from simply rotating few crowded teeth) is an important step in bringing symmetry to my mouth and face in general..But some posts in web says that Invisalign sucks at corecting bites..True or false??

Ok, I have invisalign, just started. My sister in law is one of the "high falutin" people who would rather buy a pair of shoes than pay her light bill.. No common sense when it comes to money and ALWAYS has to hae the best, or the first.. You get my drift.
Unfortunately, she also applies this to her children. They are spoiled rotten.. Off the subject.
Well, She decided that since the 16 year old had to wear train tracks for 3 years, she wants the 12 year old to have what auntie Relle has. So, I gave her my Ortho's number and didn't hear much.. until after her consultation... Wow, she was Mad!!
I guess the Doc "insulted" her and her child because he had the "audacity" to say that adolescents and teens tend not to have good oral hygiene habits, coupled with the ability to take out the trays and lose them, or keep them out if the initial discomfort is too much. Basically, he said young children aren't dillengent, understanding, or trusted enough for these.
So, I am a moron for reccomending my boneheaded sister in law and niece to my beloved ortho. I feel really bad because I have no idea what he will say to me about the referral( hopefully a few more weeks til my next clincheck will fade the memory to zero).
But, from my point of view, It honestly took every, every drop of willpower I had to keep the trays in my mouth the first few days.. The pressure is severely annoying, mildly painful, and seriously enough to make you want to just snap them out and say, screw it! I really, REALLY had to convince myself that I wasn't going to throw away thousadns of dollars. I had these snaggle teeth for so long, put of with so much hateful teasing when I was younger. I never wanted train tracks, and really felt relieved that I could be a candidate for Invisalign just because I could continue to floss regualrly and easily.
The thought had crossed my mind that if I had gotten traintracks, I wouldn't be able to give in to the temptation of removing them when the going got tough. Braces, metal or plastic, trays or tracks aren't easy.
If you need them though, NOW is the time to do something, Time goes by so slowly when you are young, that when you get to be my age, 41, you blink and the day is gone.. time flies!!.. when you look back, you'll see it wasn't so bad, most of the kids you go to school with have or had braces anyway, so it's not like you are alone.. I rarely ever see adults with braces.. at least not near as many as I do younger kids.
I hope this helps, I know it's sort of a downer, talk to a few Ortho's. get their opinions and see what your parents want.
But, you will REALLY have to ask yourself, do you face things head on and not back down? or do you give in or give up easily?
If you know, deep down, that you can depend on yourself through the absolute worst, maybe you might find some doc that will believe in you as much as you do.

I live in Perth Western Australia and was wondering if you had the Invisalign Express or Standard Invisalign. The orthodontists I have consulted with are somewhat backward and keep recommending traditional braces which I would never consider as my problem only relates to the two top front teeth angle in slightly. Over the past 2o years ( I am 38) I have been considering porcelain veneers but thought I would wait for Invisalign. What were you quoted, they say Au$8000 here and HBF only cover $2000 on item number 835. Thanks

Things are going to have to get better because I am going insane!!

I can't take the bottom one out - it feels like I am tearing my teeth out. Do the buttons make it harder? I have one button on the top and four on the bottom and can't help but think that it is making it more difficult to do since there are more of them.

There is nothing I would love more than to eat something solid.

I just had a consultation yesterday and my orthodontist took x-rays and told me during my first one how much money it would be for traditional wire braces, the clear plastic braces and invisalign. I just need braces on my top row, so my price differences are not the big, about $250 more for each. Also, I was researching pricing online before I went. I found a website that compared how much the dentist pays vs. how much they charge consumers. There's a much bigger profit margin for the dentist on traditional braces than invisalign. Can't help but wonder if that's why the dentist may say that some people are good "candidates" for invisalign when it seems that they should be.....

When I go in for the intial consultation, which takes 20 minutes according to the person i talked to, do they tell me an estimate for the whole procedure? Do they tell me that I am eligible for invisalign express?? or is this all answered during the 2nd visit? Because if it is answered during the 2nd visit and i find out that it costs tooo much (5000-6000) then i will have to withdrawal so i can do it at a later time....but she said that if i do withdrawal that I would have to pay for records, x-rays, and some other bizzare fees equaling around $1000....it would suck if I had to leave there -$1000 without having anything done.

I have an overbite and went for a consultation yesterday and asked my ortho the exact same question. He told me since I have spacing issues also, that the aligners would push my teeth closer together and back. So I'm thinking that invisalign probably isn't the best option if the only problem is an overbite.

Has anyone noticed one of their more crooked teeth actually being loose? One of my lowers that needed to most correction is quite wiggly. (9 aligners in). I know you're moving the teeth, but it is kind of alarming. My dentist didn't seem too concerned.

I read somewhere that Invisalign Express is just when you need 10 aligners or less.

Three weeks have passed and now im on to my 4th week since I was told when my trays were coming in. Im excited and a bit nervous but reading all of the problems and solutions that the "invisaliners" have written, Im confident that I will get through this. While I play the waiting game, what should I stock up on? Efferdent, Listerine whitener, hydrogen peroxide??? Thanks for your help, Invisalign-ers.

Hi. I'm wondering what happens when I dont wear them like ever..lol I know theyll move back but the 8th tray fits the top and the 7th fits the bottom...is it like starting over if i use the next tray and it fits and i wear it all the time and deal with the pain? I'm afraid I've ruined something but they fit fine.....but now im just off on my aligners i have #8top and #7 bottom because #8 bottom doesnt fit yet. Ohhh I hate invisalign..they really make me crazy.. and I need a lot of help. also is it ok if i dont keep the old ones? Ive lost most of the old ones..so i hope i dont need them..

Hi everybody! The day before yesterday I was taking a walk with my husband in a small town here in Germany when we saw someone we didn't know walking a dog. Since we love dogs, we stopped and chatted a bit with this man. He was about 60 years old, I'd say. I noticed that he was wearing Invisalign and I wonder if he noticed mine, too. It was kinda funny, but I did not have the courage to ask him about it. What would you have done? Would you ask a total stranger about his aligners? Have you already had this experience?
Love, Andrea.

I just called the ortho again to ask for prices on the panoramic x-rays and some other x-rays that had to be done. It totals about $450....wow. So If the total estimate comes out to be $5000 then I will have to withdrawal because I am looking to do invisalign express, which means that I will be -450 when I walk out.

Ok I went to my dentist yesterday and got 8 teeth slinderized, I hate the smell when he has to drill them or what ever that tool is he uses it looks like a dremal. But is wasn't to bad. No pain just some jerking at times as I have tight spots so at fisrt it was tight but as he got some space it was better. He said I have great movement and we are right on track. He said most don't move that good. So I am so happy, But I am very stricked on wearing them, like 22 1'2 hours aday or more. I don't mind them at all. Everything that I hated at first is so much better and I hardly notice them. I do however have to say NO CHAPSTICK , Every time I put it on I notice it makes me get a really dry mouth like it gets on the aligners and makes it hard to speak. So I don't wear it anymore I just keep lipstick on which doesn't bother them, Also EFERDENT is the best ever, It takes any oder away and cleans them nice and is hasle free, I just put them in a bath before I eat so then when I am done eating I just take them and rinse in water and pop them in it's great. Also if I need to brush my teeth just to freshen up I just brush with the aligners in which is also good to clean the trays because you have them on your teeth it gives the ablity to brush them alittle harder. Really getting them clean. Ok I Love them if it's possiable to love braces.

Hi,
I am only on the first day or so of Invisalign and my whole mouth is sore and feels like a bad toothache and painful. Also, its really hard for me to get them off my teeth and i need these small metal things to get them off. Does it get less painful and is getting them off going to get easier? Or am i just stuck with a 20minute procedure?

Ok, I took the first step and went for a consultation today. We talked for bout an hour, i know its long but there was a lot of info. Initially i went in to see if i was eligible for invisalign express, but it seems that i have more problems than i thought. Two crowded teeth on the bottom, overbite, overjet, and including my fangs which are small teeth in the front top row. He sed that if I wanted invisalign express I could get it however it won't solve everything and so he either suggested regular metal braces or regular invisalign. I was quoted about $6200 for invisalign, this is without doing any x-rays, it was his estimate just by looking at my teeth. Quite honestly I am disappointed because now i would have to wait till the summer to get it. I don't know if that price is high or not but this guy is one of the top orthodontists, because he teaches at northwestern about invisalign or something. Is getting invisalign through a regular dentists really out of the question?? because I am aware that it is MUCH cheaper, I mean what is the cons of getting it at a dentist as opposed to an orthodontist? Anybody?

Hey Pat- I am doing invisalign and am almost done. I have 3 more trays out of 20 to go. It is not inconvenient at all. People don't even know I have them in. Of course, it is an adjustment at first, but I love them! It is very easy to remove and put back in, of ocurse, you have to try this a few times. I usually put my napkin up to my mouth and pop them out. It's like wearing a retainer. Then after I eat, I usually go to the restroom, rinse out, and put them back in. I hope this helps. I think it is great and in my profession, sales, I can't have anything impeding my speech or looks. Good luck, you will love them once you adjust. The adjustment only takes a few tries of popping your trays on and off.

I am still able to back out of the Invisalign (at a cost) and go the traditional braces route but then again I don't think I want to do that.

It's really funny I read this today. I went for my dental check up and my dentist got upset when the tooth that was the most crooked originally was what he called "mobile". He took an x-ray and he said the root and the bone looked fine but he was still upset. I called the ortho later and he said not to worry that is normal. going to see ortho next week. let you know.

I live in Ohio and go to an orthodontist in North Royalton which is an urban city near Cleveland. I had 9 top braces and 13 bottoms and my total cost was $3900. This included everything from my exams, x-rays, and final retainer. He told me he charges less for Invisalign because it does not require as many visits to see him. I go about every 3 months or so. Hope this helps.

WOW, I am so glad I found this board! I just switched to my fifth set of aligners today, and I'm not a happy camper. I just had the buttons put on yesterday and I can't get the aligners out! I actually broke a fingernail trying to get them off. When I do get them off, it feels like I'm going to pull my teeth out, and it's extremely painful. I made an emergency appointment for this afternoon for a consultation. I can't go another 8 months with major pain just by removing them.
