Everyone so far payed around 3000+ for their treatment..but I was wondering if anyone here has had invisalign express (a cheaper version) that involves 10 sets. Also, I am a smoker and wondering if there is anybody out there that quit smoking due to invisalign. Also, I am in chicago and if anyone can recomment me to an orthodontist that would be great, also should I look for orthodontists that provide free consultation?? because paying 300 for checkup not knowing that I might receive from that specific orthodontists seems to be a bit pricey.
Definitely definitely definitely look for an orthodontist who'll give you a free checkup. 300 dollars? That's not only pricey, that's ridiculous. As for invisalign express, I think that would be a legitimate question to ask your orthodontist during your FREE consultation. good luck to ya!

Hmmm, I was more under the impression that the majority of orthodontists gave free consultations, not the other way around...I would think you would be able to find one that'll give you one for free. In any case, choosing your ortho is pretty important so you don't want to go into it with the mentality "i just paid this guy a bunch of money so i might as well just go with him." Trust me, you'll be spending alot of money on these things anyways unfortunately....might as well start by saving a bit on the consultation.

Thanks for your answer Glitter Star. I will like to see a couple of doctors and Krantz is for sure to be one of them. Seems like the price for this area is going to be very close among doctors and you should feel confident with the one you pick. I hope your treatment continues going well because you sound very happy with it.JC quote: Originally posted by Glitter Star:
Originally posted by JC: Hi Glitter Star:I am also in the Mandarin area and I am considering Invisalign. How much did they cost you? How long is your treatment? How many uppers and lowers? I had a looked a this before with David and Associates and they quoted like $4500 like a year ago. I didn't do it at the time because I needed some other dental work done. David & Assoc. just charge about the same to everybody regardless of treatment and that seems kind of strange. I did all my dental work but I haven't gone back. Did you visit different doctors? Thanks for your answer in advance.
Hi Jc I am paying $4,500, I am doing 16 upper and 21 lowers. So 8 & 10 mths. I love Dr Krantz. I called David & Assoc. They were a little rude and acting like I shouldn't want my teeth fixed and then without even seeing me said I wasn't a good canidate this after I had a first opinion which said I was a very good canidate. So then because I did want a second opinion I found Dr. Krantz. The first dr. was ok but I really felt comfortable with Dr Krantz. Maybe you should check him out.
who is you Orthodontist? quote: Originally posted by cinnalily: I've had my aligners on for a week today. I found the same thing as most of you...they're tight at first and really hard to take off, putting back on wasn't too bad. When my ortho's assistant got me to practice it took me about 5 minutes to get the top one off and I never did get the bottom one off myself, she had to do it. So I was a bit worried, but she sent me home with a tool to try out (was plastic and too flimsy) and I suggested that maybe rubber gloves would help because then you can use your hands and they won't slip. She sent me home with a bag full and I tried it when I got home and it worked great and ever since the trays have loosened up and they're a lot easier to take off. Plus they gave me a toothbrush for cleaning them when I take them off and I actually use the handle of it as a tool to help take them off. I've gotten used to it and it only takes a couple of minutes to take them off and give them a scrub. The next thing I noticed was that it really hurt to take them off and put them back on and I was really tempted to back out, calculating hor much money I would lose! But it's gotten much better and I think I see my teeth changing already, so I'm happy now! My tongue got really irritated on the sides too, but I think that's finally gone now. Someone mentioned the constant pressure driving him insane and I totally agree! I laughed when I read how he wanted to rip his face off...so true! It's such a distraction! At least we can take them off even for 10 minutes to have a break though. I've decided that traditional braces could be classified as torture devices and are designed to keep teens too distracted to get into trouble, I'm sure they are much worse than these are! Yes, I do have a bit of a lisp, but I think it's going away slowly. I also move my mouth differently when I talk, but I think it's only noticeable to people who know me well. I had some filing done between my bottom teeth too and will have a bit more done on my next three visits and in about three weeks he'll be putting some 'buttons' on. Invisalign wanted to put them on my front four upper teath, but my ortho got them to do them on the inside of my teeth, so I'm happy about that, they won't be visible and look weird! I'm also going to have one on the front of each first molar on the bottom, but I don't think they'll be very noticeable. I think it's going to be good overall. I'm in Vancouver BC and I'm paying 6200.

I hope you find what your looking for who ever you chose. Also the 2 receptionest in his office have invisaligns. Well one is just now finished and her teeth look fabulous. So that is nice to see people who have had them done by him. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hi, I live in Australia and had my invisalign put in last night. Things are going to have to get better because I am going insane!! I can't take the bottom one out - it feels like I am tearing my teeth out. Do the buttons make it harder? I have one button on the top and four on the bottom and can't help but think that it is making it more difficult to do since there are more of them. There is nothing I would love more than to eat something solid.

You'll find most of us have struggled getting the first aligner out, even without the buttons. Honest, it does get easier and you learn the best way of removing them after a few days. I didn't find it any more difficult to remove the aligner when I eventually had buttons fixed, despite fearing that I would. It's just scary at first, isn't it, when you think you'll be stuck with the aligner in your mouth forever.

And of course I did Invisalign for appearances (partially and also having straight teeth just feels better), so to forfeit working out as hard (and looking and feeling my best) to wear the retainers all the time is just not worth it.I've had great success doing what I have done, and if something isn't broke, don't fix it. It reminds me of braces, they give you all kinds of advice about what to eat and what not to eat, I had braces once, the guy was an idiot though and I should never have had them that early, they were useless, and I ate whatever I wanted without problems. And, please, I don't need to hear about working out from a girl -- no girl knows what it's like to work out hard. What girls consider working out is very light intensity compared to actual body building. Unless of course the girl IS a body builder, but that's less than 1% of the population, so unlikely. My friends don't even really know about my retainers, my best friend does, but I don't wear the retainers that often when they are around because usually we're out drinking or whatever. You cannot wear retainers when you go out to the bars. That is a simple fact. There are two things they tell you, 1) Do not wear Invisalign when you are eating or drinking anything but water, and 2) Wear Invisalign all the time when you're not drinking of eating. Now tell me, genius, how can you wear Invisalign while you are the bar drinking? You can't. You're constantly drinking something, for a period of at least several hours, and therefore it wouldn't be useful or intelligent AT ALL to bring your retainers with you. Unless you're old and boring and never go out to the bars, in which case... good for you, you can wear them all the time, if you lead a completely sedentary life and don't go out to bars, then you should have no trouble. I wear them as much as I can, which ends up being about 16 hours a day. There are days it is 18 hours, but that's not real regular I'd say. I just think some of you are way too worried -- your orthodonist is going to tell you whatever works BEST. It clearly works BEST if you wear your retainers as much as possible, i.e. all the time. But it works fine if you don't, too. And I change my retainers weekly, at the advice of my orthodonist. I've never had much trouble wearing them, they slide in and out easily and they don't hurt hardly at all, so no I've never had trouble with constant movement. If I had them out for 12 hours at once, that would be bad. But as long as it's less than 4 hours, it's fine.
Hi, I don't even have Invisalign, just thinking about them, but I just wanted to reply to this. Girls can work out just as hard as guys, and if you don't see any girls at your gym, then you need to get out

Hi. I am currently debating between getting invisalign and commuting to school which is a 15-20 minute drive (not bad) or just dorming in school another semester and not get braces until summer starts. I know that this is a decision I have to make myself, but I want braces badly. I would like to know what other's would do in my situation. I keep thinking, that by summer I would already have straight teeth if I went with choice one.

Relax, it just takes a little time to get used to the aligners. I find that its quite helpful if you stick both thumbs in towards the very back tooth in your mouth, lift the aligner up off the back tooth using your nails a bit. You should also do this to the other back tooth on the other side of your mouth. This mean the tray becomes loose all the way around and then you can usually lift them up and off your teeth. Its really not that hard once you do it a few times. Good luck.

I got my first set today.. 42 on top 19 on the bottom. 6 buttons on top, two on the bottom. You asked if any one has crooked teeth. My two canines(fangs) on the bottom twist in towards my tongue, my jawline is narrow and it looks like it belongs on a gator. My top teeth are so bucked, I could take tops off of beer bottles, eat corn through a picket fence and when I bite into a sandwich or something else that requires my top teeth to come together to shear the food, my bottom teeth don't even meet my top teeth. My bottom teeth in front hit the roof of my mouth. It will be interesting to see how this goes. It's been about 4 hours now and the pressure isn't to bad. Taking them out isn't easy, But at least this will cut me down on my snacking and nail biting.. I've already tried to nibble the skin around my nails.. nope, can't be done.. hurts little to try. hope I helped quote: Originally posted by Beginnergal: Hello! Class 1 isn't so bad.. I am a class three and 41 years old. My Ortho has been around for almost 50 years, his son started in the same practice about 15 years ago. They've been doing Invisalign since it was still in the research stage. I did a LOT of checking on the internet, I brought up their names in every search engine.. Not just theirs, but a bunch of other Ortho's in the area. I did a few weeks of research and comparisons to find who had the most experience, who had the most community involvment, who didn't have any complaints with the State Dept of health or BBB.. believe me, there are a LOT of files of dirt out there. Anyway, I decided to go with whom I did because they also gave me names of many satisfied clients, showed me examples of difficult cases ( pictures/ models)I got to talk to a lot of patients/ mothers of patients and both Docs for a long time. I can't believe they put up with me for so long. I was told that it isn't unusual that partway through treatment that they have to alter the script for the future sets of trays and get new ones.possibly extending treatment for a few more weeks. But everything is included in the price. When I am on my final trays, they become my first set of retainers. I will have to wear them daily and nightly for about 3 months( the buttons will be sanded off at this point) then after that only at night. I don't know how long at that point. One gal I spoke to had her Invisaligns finished about 3 years ago.. she said she can feel her teeth shift if she doesn't ear her retainers at least three nights a week.. That is pretty scary, BUT, I've seen a LOT of people that had traintrack braces that stopped wearing their retainers AND their teeth are shifting back too. Teeth and bone has a memory. over the treatment course, everything is shifting. think about how many years your teeth were ijn need of straightening( how long it took for them to get bad...permanent teeth to the 12 year molar.. 5-7 years?) thats when you are young and your bones and teeth are still changing anyway) Now, you're trying to correct in 12-24 months and expect the teeth and bones to forget? Anyway, I digress, I would get another opinion.. get two if they are cheap.. Good LuckTE]Originally posted by ScottB: I had a presentation of treatment by an ortho who did molds and xrays. He is a provider of braces and invisalign. He said invisalign would not fix my overbite which I think he said was a class I malocclusion. He said they would straighten my teeth but not fix the bite. That seems to be contrary to the invisalign website. He would rather remove 4 teeth and use conventional braces so he could move the teeth and roots together. Something about making the roots parallel which he said invisalign can't do. He did say, if I wanted, he would shave a few teeth to make space and go with invisalign to straighten with no bite correction. I thought I look up another provider to get a second opinion.
Okay I just made an appointment with an orthodontist for a free consultation. I am still confused about something though. When I go in for the intial consultation, which takes 20 minutes according to the person i talked to, do they tell me an estimate for the whole procedure? Do they tell me that I am eligible for invisalign express?? or is this all answered during the 2nd visit? Because if it is answered during the 2nd visit and i find out that it costs tooo much (5000-6000) then i will have to withdrawal so i can do it at a later time....but she said that if i do withdrawal that I would have to pay for records, x-rays, and some other bizzare fees equaling around $1000....it would suck if I had to leave there -$1000 without having anything done.

i started my first set two days ago, FINALLY. 13 sets, about 26 weeks treatment time. I went to the ortho for a consult (included taking pictures and x-rays) in january.. had to wait like FOUR months for my snail paced insurance to give an estimate of how much they would cover.. made an appt for june to have another consult with the doc to discuss length and type of treatment.. i chose invisalign. Had a second appointment a few days laters so they can take impressions of my teeth to send out. then they made an appt for me for two months later so i can start my treatment. now i have them!! i've wanted straight teeth since FOREVER! But as a teen I was so afraid of metal braces because I was self conscious (and i still am!). Hopefully I will be more confident once my treatment is over..... I REALLY hope this works.

I am on aligner 14 out of 32, so almost half way (yay!) and I've noticed with the most recent set that my bottom teeth are really sensitive to cold things like drinks etc. They never have been before and I was just wondering if this was most likely because of the movement that is happening or if it could be something else. Thanks.

It's not fitting in the braces where it should. It is the second tooth to on my left side from the front. It is like bending inward. and i'm so confused as what to do with it. Yesterday I remember yesterday eating a cheesesteak, then i chomped down and like stubbed my tooth, it hurt LIKE HELL as if you stub your toe, for a minute but the pain went away. But when i put the tray in, the tooth is all crooked ... What the hell should i do? i guess on monday i'll call first thing in the morning. But did anyone else have any problems like this before? If i keep wearing the try will it fall back into place?

Hi..The first tray will be the toughest..But things will get better. Let me sum up my experience with Invisalign..I have 24 lower trays and 12 upper trays. Now on my 4th and I am already sensing some small difference in my bite..So far, I am very happy with the stuff. Its completely invisible(well, I don#t know how invisible the upper one will be as when I smile, its the upper tooth that are most visible..). I had problem removing only the first set..Then I became kinda expert doing this, I guess.Lately I have become less disciplined though..I am wearing 18-21 hours..Occasionally smokes wearing the thing, consistently sips coffee and beer wearing it and sometimes drink soup wearing aligner..I am not sure how dangerous these behaviours are...But I have to wait atleast 6 more months to see any noticeable difference in my smile..Could anyone please tell me whether braces stretch just tooth only or jaw as well? I would be pleased if it could move my jaw as well 'coz I think my lower jaws are slightly protruding..I will by paying aroung 4200 EURO(living in Munich, Germany)... quote: Originally posted by Jessica: Hi, I live in Australia and had my invisalign put in last night. Just finished week one. It was very painful to begin with, I was panicking I would never get the trays out, which activated feelings of claustrophobia out and I was self concious regarding my slurred speech. Even worse, after all the stretching of my mouth at the dentist while brackets were attached to my teeth and the trays fitted my mouth broke into blisters at the sides. However, at the end of week one the pressure has become reasonable, my speech suffrs onbly from a slight lisp and I am very pleased with the appearance, they are barely noticeable. I am due to have only 18 on top and 15 on bottom which will be very worthwhile (assuming it all works)

yeah when i first got them in they were a BITCH!! in a few days they'll be easier to take in and out ... then when you get on your forth or fifth tray it'll be easy, it's all about trick, and feeling, once you get your confidence up it'll get much better.

Wow, I feel along with you. This is my second week with my 1st set. The first day ( last tuesday) wasn't so bad. Pretty fair amount of pressure but not to bad. I lisped a little and formed spit bubbles.. drooled like a two year old also. Not too bad. That night, laying down in bed, I could feel my heartbeat in my teeth and they HURT!!! I finally went to sleep and decided, with the approval of my ortho the next day, that I would keep my trays in until the second friday, so I could take an advil before going to bed and put in my new trays just before I hit the sack, so I could sleep through the worst of it. Hang in there, the first three days are the worst, each progressively getting better. Now, I can just about use my tongue to pop my trays out and can snap them right in. I have 6 buttons on top, and 4 on the bottom. They are so bloody sharp that when I try to eat, i pinch the inside of my cheek pretty regualrly. I'm eating more like a cow/hamster. I pack more food into my cheeks so they don't come in contact with the buttons, and I eat with a slow side to side/up and down motion to prevent biting myself repeatedly. I'm sure by next week when i put in my second trays, it will be crap all over again, but at least, I will know better what to expect.

Dear Robert, I am sure by now, you have mastered brushing and flossing. But, I wanted to give my 2 cents.. I've always been a habitual flosser especially while waiting for stop lights, watching TV, anytime I am sitting still for a while. It was recc'd to me to get the traintrack braces originally, but I knew I would go crazy not being able to floss normally. I found a wonderful Ortho in West palm Beach.. (If anyone needs a good one in Palm Beach County ,FL, Let me know). He said I would be a good candidate for Invisalign and I could floss as usual, only not often, just after meals.. that was still ok, I didn't have to "thread" around each bracket, and spend an hour doing each tooth with metal braces.. The buttons are natural food collectors.. In some respects, I welcomed the gobs of masticated food piling up on them,it kept the buttons from meeting my lower teeth with my inner cheek mashed in between, but it's pretty nauseating for your dinner guest/companion to look at when you are chatting over a meal. I've gotten into the habit of swishing with whatever I am drinking with my meal when I feel the gob starting to build.( water only for me, I don;t want to stain my teeth) Well, it takes me about 20-30 minutes to eat what I would have normally eaten in about 10-15 minutes.. the pokey buttons have slowed me way down. I go into the sink, rinse as good as I can, use a stimudent, or toothpick to dig out any stray food pieces wedges between or on top of my teeth, rinse some more and floss.. THEN, I brush, all over, swish a bunch more and floss or pick again, just in case, then with a damp brush, brush and rinse again, snap in my trays and I am done til the next meal.. needless to say, I've cut out all snacking, eat three meals only, I've lost about 2 pounds in 1 week, my gums are still great and my teeth don't hurt.. But, when those next trays go in, whew, don;t really look forward to that. Hope this helps you or anybody else.

I guess I have a 6 month set-up with 10 aligners for the bottom and 7 for the top. So far, pulling out the bottom one sucks! It's a aggravating process! But, it's for the best! Umm...I find myself only eating twice a day at lunch and at night... And I eat rather quickly (15 - 20) minutes and I brush for about 3 minutes. I am affraid to brush over those little brackets they glued to my teeth. Does anyone know any an easier method to brushing/cleaning the teeth with the brackets on them?...
