delphineI had an abcessed tooth, began taking penicillin V, had the root canal done, still had an abcess after 10 days of treatment with pen V. doctor put me on clindamycin 150mg, have been taking it for 7 days, still have the abcess. how long does it take for it to kill the bacteria and have the abcess go down? thanks.
Jeffrey L. Wissot, DDSI disagree with your dentist. Antibiotics are an effective adjunct to active clinical dental intervention. Alone, they have limitations. Clinical treatment is preferable.
MikeHello, I'm having the exact thing. I took penicillan for about 2 weeks and had a root canal. After about a week I felt some sensitivity in the tooth next to the tooth I had the root canal done. The doctor then gave me Clindamycin 150mg for a week. But I'm still having sensitivity. I went back to the endodontist and they recommended that I see an oral surgeon to have an apicoectomy something or other. Basically, they cut into your gums and clean out the absess. I have this scheduled in a few weeks. Hopefully, I'll make it till then. Let me know how you make out. The doctor said their was a slim chance it could heal on its own but said the surgery would just make sure???
delphinewhat sort of clinical treatment are you referring to? and how long can i safely take the clindamycin 150mg? thanks.
