Before & After: Dental Implant of a Non-Restorable Tooth

A perennial challenge in dentistry has been securing a replacement tooth in the bone, without relying on adjacent teeth for support. Teeth fractured below the gum, root canal failures or otherwise non-restorable teeth, may, in select cases, be replaced by immediate dental implants. Barbara fractured her front tooth in a boating mishap.

Lacking sufficient tooth structure to anchor a conventional crown, the tooth was deemed non-restorable. Using modern technology, a dental implant and provisional crown were placed within two hours of the emergency visit. Awaiting full stabilization of the implant, the dentist cemented the final restoration four months later.
