Before & After: Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery
Cosmetic crown lengthening is a periodontal surgical technique that may be utilized to compensate for a "gummy" smile, or to restore short clinical teeth to a natural size. In some cases, no other treatment is necessary; other times, the restorative dentist and periodontist work in tandem for the most ideal cosmetic result.
Harriet visited her dentist’s office with an altered (or incomplete) passive eruption, giving an appearance of excessive gum tissue and too little tooth.
A periodontal crown lengthening procedure was utilized to recontour the excess gingival tissue, creating a more even gum line. Following surgical healing, the general dentist bleached Harriet's teeth and replaced two crowns. A conservative approach to cosmetic dentistry yielded a dramatically improved appearance and a happy patient.
